Countdown to the Grabbys Pt 4

Here we are at the end of our annual last-minute look at the Grabbys Awards with a spotlight on the movie awards. Before we get to the last of the nominees we have a few odds & ends.

First, for another take on the awards be sure & check out the final list of
predictions from Zach Sire of The Sword. Zach also has a poll asking "Who is most likely to have a meltdown this weekend?" & a chat with co-host Chi Chi LaRue.

In his review Zach mentioned something that we also spoke of when the nominations were announced --but forgot to mention again. And that's the glaring omission of Spencer Reed as Performer Of The Year nominee. Fortunately Spencer is doing lots of work this year too so the
Grabbys people can redeem themselves next year.

Also we'll be following the awards via Twitter so expect to see the list of winners posted as early as possible on Saturday night. Speaking of results, Showtime will FINALLY air the GAYVN Awards several times in in July--here's the
schedule. Now, on to the last categories:

The Best Pro-Am category needs some kind of clarification or renaming because the original concept seems a little dated. Maybe it should be called Best Web-To-Video Compilation or something similar. That being said the military-themed sites seem to have the monopoly on nominations here so expect Active Duty or Dirk Yates to either win or somehow split the votes & allow another nominee to slip in.

Even though the Best Leather Movie category was dropped this year (likely from lack of nominees) the Best Fetish & Best Fetish Extreme clearly demonstrated how the diversity of fetish material has grown. Hot House & Titan seem to do well in these categories & it's likely that the judges will keeop things that way this year. Here will go out on a limb & say that in the fetish category we bet Major Asshole or Sanctuary from Hot House will take home the prize. In the Best Fetish Extreme we'd love to see Kennel Master from Titan Men's Rough win just because it's the most unusual of all the nominees. However, Stockroom (also from Titan Men) was a very strong movie & memorable too.

In the Best Twink category we've got a feeling that Bel Ami is the favorite with Virgin No More although the obsession with twins these days might give an edge to Double Czech: Twins in Lust (Channel 1 Releasing).

The Best Ethnic category is a hard one to predict too but the familiarity of Channel 1 Releasing probably makes Affirmative Blacktion the favorite. That said it would be interesting if Steamworks from Raging Stallion wins because it seemngly wasn't made specifically as an "ethnic" feature.

If we knew how the judges score the Best Comedy movies we'd probably have an easier time picking a winner here? It's a very strong selection here to say the least. The favorites would seem to be F*CK U & Little Big League IV: Grand Slam (both from Channel 1 Releasing) and Getting Levi's Johnson & Jersey Score (both from Jet Set Men). However it's likely that Jet Set has the greatest chance of winning in this category. Which movie? Still undecided here.

In the Best International category it really doesn't get more international than Collin O'Neal's World of Men series and for consistency of quality the company is very deserving of any award. However, World of Men has to contend with powerhouse Bel Ami. Again we'd have to know the judges' mindset to figure this one out because it's hard to make a pick here. Bel Ami might just have the momentum to win.

All of the Best All-Sex nominees are really hot although several feature a plot or script of some kind & they're really out of place here---no matter how good there are. If we're going to be strict on the "all-sex" criteria the Colt movies, Attraction, Loading Zone, Sanctuary 1, Hard Muscle & Australia all are stronger nominees. The Grabbys sometimes like to spread the wealth so this could be the Colt/Buckshot winning category. Still we think it would be nice to see Steve Cruz & Bruno Bond get recognized for their Hard Friction entry Attraction.

It may be trite to say "it's an honor just to be nominated" but it's really true in the Best Movie category. Some of the nominees will probably get awards in other categories and a few will just have to be content with being recognized with nominations. Brutal is the favorite here and we'd be shocked if Raging Stallion didn't win again. Brutal was everything a "best movie" should be--hot sex, strong script, drama, & spot-on acting from an ensemble cast.

So there you have it. Congratulations to all the nominees & future winners. Have fun in Chicago!
