GAYVN Awards: The Day After
It will be another couple months before you'll see last night's GAYVN Awards broadcast on Showtime but thanks to Twitter, Facebook, gay porn blogs, and more you can get a good impression of the night's festivities. Of course it may take another few days to see more comments & pics posted by the stars & attendees because so many are in full "Folsom Street Fair" mode this weekend. For now we have a few places on the web where you can see some pics & recaps as well as a few comments culled from Twitter. They deserve a round of thanks for making the effort during & after these awards.
First, as we mentioned last night the the majority of people who tweeted seemed to be very happy with the GAYVN Awards presentation itself. It's very likely that Showtime filming the awards had some bearing on the planning and staging so maybe the answer for all gay porn awards shows is produce them as though they were going to be televised. A little effort, run throughs & rehearsals can make all the difference.
For the most part we're very pleased with the results. While it's impossible to have something where everyone is satisfied with the outcome there were a few instances they came very close.
--Joe Gage. At long last he received an award as Best Director (Dad Takes a Fishing Trip). True, he was tied with Chris Ward, Ben Leon, & Tony DiMarco (Focus/ReFocus) but no one can deny that he was long overdue for this recognition after years of turning out classic after classic.
--Matthew Rush. Winning Best Versatile from his fans obviously meant a lot to him but being inducted into the GAYVN Hall of Fame by his peers brought him to tears.
--Conner Habib. The Best Newcomer category was full of guys we like & consider friends so we were very conflicted. Nevertheless we were happily surprised to see him take this honor. Besides, it was great to see his fellow nominees cheer him on & congratulate him wholeheartedly afterwards. It proved this category had class.
