Book Spotlight: Pioneers by Rick Day
One of our fave male erotic photo books that came out last year was Players by Rick Day. A stunning collection of beautifully built athletes wearing as little as possible---what could be better than that? This large format hardcover book was an unqualified success for Day and his publisher Bruno Gmunder so it should come as no surprise that Rick Day has a new book coming out in October. It's called Pioneers and it's another gorgeous collection.
Where Players featured athletes, Pioneers features a variety of impossibly gorgeous men in the studio and in the great outdoors--the ocean, the mountains, etc. If you've seen Rick Day's fantastic work you know he doesn't just shoot hot guys in interesting settings and leave it like that. Bruno Gmunder describes the photographer's style as dramaturgy meaning that there is more going on in his photos than you might originally perceive. Sometimes there's symbolism and a composition that tells a story.
NY-based photographer Rick Day has shot so many gorgeous men for advertising, fashion, photo essays, etc that it's likely you have seen his work without knowing it. D.O., Jack Mackenroth, Simon Dexter (Sean Ccody's Harley) are just a few of the stunners you may know of. By the way in case you didn't recognize the Pioneers cover model, that's Joseph Sayers, the former A+F model who continues to impress no matter what he's doing. He's reason enough to pique our interest in this new book. Oh yes, and for those who would prefer something a little smaller scale there's also a 2010 Players calendar.
