Steamworks: The Review



  One of the things we appreciate about directors like Tony Dimarco & Steve Cruz is that they take on creatively challenging projects and do a great job of it. By the same token when they take on projects that seem pretty straightforward they seem to challenge themselves to produce something that is far more interesting than the material or theme. Steamworks falls into this latter category because, after all, there have been several porn flicks that have used the sex club/bathhouse setting before. So, when we first heard about Steamworks we were curious as to how talented & creative directors (and co-cinematographers) Tony Dimarco & Steve Cruz would make this movie stand out. 

  For one thing, Dimarco & Cruz decided to shoot Steamworks on location in the legendary Bay Area bathhouse of the same name. As you'll see (for those who haven't visited the place) the lighting and the layout of the club seem to be just perfect for cinema magic. We're not talking anything extraordinarily surreal or distracting -- it's just different enough from the real world. For another D & C have cast Steamworks with a wonderfully diverse & sexy cast. In fact, it's one of the most diverse of the year and definitely a milestone for Raging Stallion as you'll see. 

  Steamworks opens with Austin Wilde checking into the club, stripping and wrapping a towel around his waist and going on the prowl through the blue lit hallways lined with private rooms. This opening is somewhat deceptive because Austin is here to introduce you to the setting --his sex scene comes much later. Rather the real star here in terms of screen time is tanned muscle stud Angelo Marconi who gets TWO scenes--and in both scenes he is relatively manhandled by his scene partners. Herein lies a fair warning. Steamworks is about guys looking to hook up for sex and getting off---they're not necessarily looking for anything meaningful.

  Angelo Marconi is first seen in the open shower room getting hard as he runs the water over his body, keeping his eye open for hot guys. Enter Diesel Washington whose towering presence is automatically very eye-riveting. Diesel wastes no time dominating the scene by reaching over and starting up the action. Surprisingly there's a bit of foreplay as the two kiss passionately. After that Angelo gets on his knees to give head to Diesel, who in turn bends his buddy over to eat out his bubble butt. From there the two move to fucking under the showers and against a rail. This is the kind of hard deep fucking that you've come to expect from Diesel Washington but it's not mindless jackhammering. The two guys kiss often as they fuck so there's a fair degree of passion in this scene. It's not that we haven't seen this before in a Diesel scene, it's just that we don't see it often enough. One thing you can definitely say is that both guys are really into this scene--and each other. Just watch Diesel's sexy smile as he fucks and how he licks up his own cum off of Angelo's butt. He's relishing every moment of this scene. 



  We next see muscular Derek Reynolds in the locker room putting on his towel and obviously getting ready to go out into the club. At the same time Race Cooper enters the locker room wearing a towel & we assume he's getting ready to leave the club without a hook-up. Both of their plans fly out the window once they catch each other's eyes: it's lust at first sught.  They kiss and feel up each other's muscles, strip out of their towels and go for it right there between the lockers. Watching these two flawless bodies in action is sexually exciting beyond compare. They show off their bods in all kinds of positions and they do just about everything two hot guys in heat can do before getting down to fucking.  And yes, they do fuck like rabbits all over the small space --against the lockers, with Derek riding Race's cock, and finally Race Cooper impaling Derek Reynolds as he lies back on the bench. Ultimately it's a passionately intense & memorable that would have been perfect but for a creative decision to throw in some periodic scene fade-outs. These devices have the effect of deceiving the viewer into thinking the scene is over and they come dangerously close to wiping away the scene's very dynamic momentum.

  In the next scene Angelo Marconi is back, following Alexsander Freitas through the blue-lit maze and finding his erect cock sticking out of a glory hole. Angelo eagerly goes down on Alexsander' cock and that's when the tone of the scene changes dramatically. You see Alexsander Freitas has a very distinctive style of performing that isn't for everyone.  He's a very high-energy performer and whether he's getting sucked off or fucking he just has to be in control. Here he doesn't just sit back & let Angelo Marconi suck him..he has to face fuck him back. When he fucks it looks like he's in a race to cum first and he's got an intense look in his eyes and face that's almost nasty. Again this is a style that's not for every viewer nor is it for every scene partner. There's no denying that we love Freitas' incredible tattooed body and handsome face and but we'd like to see him demonstrate a softer side of his personality when involved in a sex scene.



 In the last scene in Steamworks we finally return to Austin Wilde who hooks up with Topher Dimaggio in his private room. They make out and have a hot 69 and visually they certainly are very well matched: similarly built muscle bods with bubble butts & nice cocks. For a change of pace Austin Wilde bottoms here, further demonstrating his dynamic screen persona--besides it's always nice to see that Austin can take as well as he gives. As for Topher Dimagggio many viewers of the movie probably don't know his previous work so it may come as more of a surprise to see this sweet & semi-innocent looking young as a top.  It definitely gives this scene an interesting dynamic that you might not expect.

  Overall we enjoyed Steamworks and feel like Tony Dimarco & Steve Cruz did succeed in making the movie stand out from the rest of movies with this theme. You'll really have to determine for yourself whether the few things that bothered us in a couple of the scenes are noticeable and make a difference to you.
