Mojave Run: The Review
Even if Mojave Run didn't have any credits it wouldn't take a genius to figure out that the movie was written and directed by the legendary Joe Gage. Gage's distinctive & inimitable style is in full force here in this tale of the inner workings of a strange sex clinic situated in a remote area of the Mojave Desert. It's a perfect combination of drama & subtle humor and seductively conceived sex scenes that unfold perfectly. It's a tribute to Gage that although he makes it all look so easy, it obviously isn't--otherwise more porn-makers would be doing it his way.
The title Mojave Run actually has dual meaning. When we first see Christopher Saint inexplicably jogging through the desert wearing a shirt and tighty-whities we're led to believe that the movie title refers to his "run" through the desert landscape (by the way, we like that Titan Men has a visual "running gag" (sorry, it had to be said) in several recent of Christopher Saint jogging through the scenery). The "run" is also referred to later as the stay of the patients in the clinic which features prominently.
There's a bit of intrigue in Mojave Run that comes into play right from the start. Dakota Rivers is driving on a lonely stretch of highway set near Tehachapi, passing by the jogging Christopher Saint and then pulling over to pretend to stretch his legs. Saint meets up with him and there's an immediate attraction. However they don't tear off their clothes and gop at it. Joe Gage likes to have things play out a bit more naturally. The two guys chit chat, go off to a secluded spot and play the "I'll show you mine then you show me yours" routine. Their low-key dialog is pricelessly seductive and even when they get to the suck 'n' fuck part they still are talking--although it's far more explicit. Now we all have seen Christopher Saint in action as a performer and actor and once again he's a firecracker. He looks hot & is a dynamo, even when he's playing a guy who's being seduced. Dakota Rivers is more of a revelation here. You really get a sense of his height and frankly his body looks the best we've seen. He's always been a kind of quiet actor and fortunately he doesn't overcompensate for this.
Mojave Run shifts to the Mojave Wellness Clinic where Dr Ellis (Sean Stavos) conducts dual "examinations" of new patients Calhoun (Jock Hudson) and Bect (Leo Alarcon) who are here at the facility for six weeks. We also find out that this a clinic for sex addicts from the new patients' interviews. Obviously the doctor's methods aren't "aversion" therapy because he gets both guys hard and strokers their cocks simultaneously. Again the scene plays out slowly and seductively with so much sexual tension that it's totally hot. Dr Ellis gets Bect to go down on Calhoun and vice versa while he stands there a silent sentinel. Ut's as though he's instructing these two on how to become BETTER sex addicts! They both get "rimming" instructions and when it's Bect's turn the doctor introduces a dildo into the scene to make him cum. As the doc Sean Stavos is properly dignified & "doctorly" although Gage does throw in a shot or two of Stavos rubbing his crotch to show this is turn on for him. Super-cute Leo Alarcon doesn't have to act much but he sure is fun to watch as a performer. Then there's VERY tall & hairy Jock Hudson who is playing a straight husband in the clinic for "preventative" treatment. He doesn't have much to say either but his reactions say it all. A super hot guy that we want to see more of.
In the next scene the intrigue deepens and we get a little subtle humor to start things off. Dakota Rivers shows up at the clinic and is greeted by Dr Ellis. He introduces Dakota as resident sex researcher Andre Cusamano to his newest orderly Lloyd-----none other than Christopher Saint. The sexy semi-farcical scene provides some necessary exposition as well as a light moment.
We then see Room 8 in the facility where four patients are bunked together (in separate beds) & sleeping.
Previously Dr Ellis had explained that bunking patients together was designed as a support method to prevent solo masturbation but as we see it's only good for preventing the "solo" part. One of the guys Bracket (Ben Stone) is a restless sleeper and we are led to believe it's because he has to take a piss. He does and it's a loud and long one--so loud in fact that is wakes up an annoyed Stan (Adam Russo). Bracket is still wide awake but for different reasons--he's horny. He starts jacking off in bed and the other guys including newbies Bect & Calhoun join in. Eventually they form a bedside circle jerk that's totally hot. Again Gage creates a lot of sexual tension & heat by letting the scene evolve slowly and by preventing it from going any further than masturbation.
The next day a group therapy session takes place with the entire cast in attendance. While discussing their "issues" one of the guys starts rubbing his crotch which leads to another of Dr Ellis' oddball methods f treatment. Again Gage throws in some powerful sexual tension and with everyone turned you don't know where the scene is headed. We do learn a bit more of Lloyd's back story and that Dr Ellis is probably even more a sex addict than his patients. Bracket, Stan, & Bect (Stone, Russo & Alarcon) are sent out on a "break" into the courtyard and they're soon joined by the doc who wants to conduct a series of exercises that's supposed to "stay within these walls".
This leaves the very tall pair of Andre & Calhoun (Dakota & Jock) alone to have all-out sex in the meeting room.
There is something very exciting about two obviously tall and statuesque studs getting it on. There's beautiful contrast between hairy, lean & bearded Jock Hudson & the smooth, broad-shouldered Dakota Rivers and their sex is hot--from sucking cock to fucking on the floor. Dakota is even more dynamic than in his first scene and we get another chance to see the talent of Jock Hudson who has the combination of youthful energy but in a man's body.
Outside Dr Ellis' "exercise" is really nothing more than him using the patients as action figures in his own sex fantasy. He gets to participate too although he's mostly there to manipulate his patients in a sexual puppet theater. Why if we didn't know better we'd swear that Joe Gage was using the scene to parallel the work of a director in a porn movie! At first Stan & Bracket (Adam Russo & Ben Stone) have sex in a very cut & dry manner until the doc instructs them to kiss and the real passion begins. Bect joins in but this three-way is mostly about the two other guys fucking like longtime lovers. It's very exciting to see these two transform in the course of one scene. As for the story, you might assume that Dr Ellis' goal is to get his patients away from sexual compulsive but emotionally disconnected sex and that his methods seem to work.
After observing so much and not getting off Dr Ellis finally has his moment --he goes back to the meeting room and strips down to have sex with Lloyd. Sean Stavos & Christopher Saint make a terrific pair here in a scene that is both passionate and hardcore with some very titillating vocals thrown in for extra spice. By this point in the plot there's no need for slow seduction so Gage pushes them together right away. Sucking turns to deep fucking and these guys couldn't fit together more perfectly. Thanks to the looks in their eyes, the sexy smiles on their faces and their expressive voices we can feel every deep thrust that Stavos deals out. Yeah, very hot.
Of course you know that Joe Gage isn't going to end things just like that. He puts in a succinct and necessary final non-sex scene where Dakota & Christopher are back in character giving the movie a very satisfying resolution. If you're a fan and/or collector of Joe Gage movies we don't have to tell you not to miss Mojave Run. That said, everyone should not miss Mojave Run either if only to see how good porn flicks are done.
