Who's Coming Out on 90210?
Rebel with a new cause Liam? Sensitive for a reason Navid? Dumped by a chick Teddy?
CW's 90210 returns for it's third season on September 13 and one of the show's characters is going to come out of the closet, thus generating some gay audience interest in the show. On Brian Ausiello's EW blog he received confirmation from the show's producers that the "coming out" storyline will indeed play out this fall. The good news is that this is not a temporary storyline and the character is not someone being introduced---he is already established on the show.
Ausiello has narrowed down the possibilities to three characters: Liam the rebel (Matt Lanter), the cute & sweet Navid (Michael Steger), and Teddy the tennis pro (Trevor Donovan). Jack Manly hasn't exactly been an avid watcher of the show so we had to do a little research to see if we could venture a guess as to which character will come out. Not so easy, as it turns out. All three of the characters have been involved with other female characters on the show with varying degrees of success. At the end of last season Navid has gotten back together with his gf Adrianna while Liam is just starting out things with Annie. Silver had dumped Teddy but at the end of season 2 she is leaving it up to him as to whether they get back together or not.
It seems clear that 90210 is welcoming the speculation and buzz because it's just gotta help the ratings on the show. That said they're not revealing anything or even dropping hints or clues. They could go for the obvious by making the gay character the sensitive Persian character Navid. Then again Liam is the reformed rebel--who better to go against the establishment by coming out. Teddy is newly single so it's a perfect time to give the heave-ho to the straight life. Trevor Donovan would be an interesting choice for those who like eye candy--having been an A+F model & soap actor he's certainly no stranger to being half-naked! Plus, it would be nice to have a gay male character showed off his bod more.
