Police chief dad His cute son dreamy football jock/werewolf
After only one episode it's probably too early to fully critique ABCs new summer series The Gates but at the very least we can say there's potential for male pulchritude. In a nutshell The Gates can be described as Desperate Housewives meets Twilight. A family moves into a seemingly idyllic & crime-free gated community and soon discover that there are some mysterious goings on in this picture perfect environment. That's because the community has a few vampires & werewolves among its residents and from what we've heard a witch.
The new family in The Gates community includes a super sexy & handsome dad (Frank Grillo) who takes on the recently vacated job of police chief. As we quickly learn there are cameras all over the community and the police force needs only keep an eye on the monitors. It seems like a pretty soft job but police chief hottie/dad is immediately suspicious about one of his neighbor's involvement in a missing persons case and about what's going on in the town.
The police chief also has a likable & cute teenage son (Travis Caldwell) who strikes up a friendship with one of his new classmates. It figures that she is also dating the school's sexy football jock (Colton Haynes) a very jealous hothead who also just happens to be a werewolf--and when he gets angry he starts to turn into one. Like the vampires who seem to have no problem living in daylight, the werewolf doesn't need the full moon to transform so it looks like The Gates is defying the traditional rules of legend.
There's obviously more going on in the pilot than this but our focus here is on the male eye candy. Dad Frank Grillo has been on several tv shows before, including a soap opera where taking off your shirt is practically mandatory. Before that (in the late '80s & early '90s) he was an fitness model so it was pretty easy to see shirtless pics of this handsome actor. He also did some "artistic" nude modeling and one of his iconic images (see above) hung in a local LA gym for years. Since he is a lifelong athlete lets hope that The Gates allows him to show off his hot dad bod.
The son is cute but we're keeping our eye on the jock/werewolf played by Colton Haynes. He was a model before he turned to acting in a few shows and ironically was almost signed to star in MTV's Teen Wolf remake. He's also featured in the upcoming Showtime series adaptation of Look. He also did a homoerotic series of photos for XY magazine (above) that had many gay blogs pondering his sexuality.
We may be reading into it but there seemed to be some gay overtones to the scenes with Haynes & Caldwell. Will they expand on this in the show? We'll see. Since there are already lots of shirtless pics of Colton Haynes around we'll probably see him half naked on The Gates. He's already disrobed in one scene (sort of) and he doesn't wear clothes as a werewolf so expect to see more skin. We're also interested in seeing what his fellow bad boy buds/wolf pack look like.
