Rhodes' Rules: The Review
If you've seen the movies of porn superstar Erik Rhodes you know that he can get verbally hot & nasty and that often he gravitates towards sexy sleazy roles and scenes. So it should come as no surprise to find these same attributes, along with a little kink, in his first solo directorial debut Rhodes' Rules for Mustang. We might also say that there is evidence here that Erik Rhodes has a real flair for directing and it will be interesting to see it develop at Mustang.
Rhodes' Rules is set in a real bathhouse/sex club so you can assume right from the start that this isn't a soft focus romantic feature. Simply stated, this gritty movie features an all-star cast prowling around in the dark environs of the club looking to get off with whomever suits their taste. Samuel Colt checks in at the front with Erik Rhodes in a non-sex cameo (when did you ever think you'd see that phrase?) and goes a-hunting but his is not the first encounter we see.
We first see Nash Lawler coming downstairs and finding a cock poking through a gloryhole. Fortunately the club has seen fit to illuminate the hole itself with a very noticeable red light so Nash doesn't have much hunting to do. Even though it's soft you can tell the cock is a biggie and Nash works it with his hands and mouth--and his own cock. Rhodes cleverly delays revealing the identity of the cock owner although keen eyes will know that it's Tommy Defendi. He returns the favor of cocksucking and thrusts his hairy butt up to the hole for rimming & fucking. By the way there's some creative camerawork going on here that adds to the sexual tension in the scene, a good sign that Rhodes is interested in bringing more to the table than his name. Aggressive Nash wants more than hearing Tommy moaning from the other side of the wall so he drags him out and fucks him hard.Both guys get verbal and loud and each guy lets loose with an impressive load. Next we find Adam Killian with a towel around his waist cruising through the steaming red-lit club and showing he has discriminating taste. He's a cool customer until he happens upon the handsome & hairy muscled Samuel Colt jacking his cock. Adam drops his towel and that cool facade melts away as he's sucking on Colt's hard nipples and rock hard cock. There's some really hard action going on but it's what Adam wants and the harder Samuel Colt drives in, the louder Adam gets and the more he wants it. Samuel Colt is lying back in Adam's arms and stroking his cock while Adam works the nipples on his flexed chest. It's a hot & exciting sequence that really is a standout because we never see it like this.
After two relatively high energy scenes Rhodes Rules goes into a different direction. On top of a massage table we see Trent Diesel lying on his stomach naked while he smokes a cigarette, clearly acting disinterested--that is until Tristan Jaxx enters the room and starts to fondle him. Trent's tough guy image just melts away as he sucks on Tristan and gets offers himself up for getting fucked. Tristan & Diesel work towards this goal in a dreamy slow fashion. They do talk dirty but it's not quite as nasty as the previous scenes at this deliberately slower pace. It works because we don't really think of either of these two performers as wham-bam types. On the other hand we are familiar with Andre Barclay as someone into kinky buttplay and that's what happens here too. Tyler Saint watches with lustful fascination as Barclay lets a butt machine work him over. While the machine plunders his hole, Andre Barclay gets a mouthful of Tyler Saint. Thanks to some very well-placed close-up shots Saint looks like he can visibly feel that machine pushing into Barclay. In fact the close-ups here and those in the rest of the movie are often hotter than showing the full-on penetration. The cinematic device of showing less to create more drama works very well here and we're glad to see director Rhodes showing this kind of maturity on a first effort. Again we commend Erik Rhodes for a very dynamic first effort and are eager to see how he evolves in the director's chair. Fortunately there are several new flicks being released even as we write this that will probably address our interests.
