McDonald's Gay Ad From France

You've probably heard about the following McDonald's ad that's airing in France right now. It's a sweetly humorous video really, pro-gay and yet as non-controversial as you can get. It's part of a "come as you are" ad campaign the company is running in France to show that McDonald's is for every type of person. Sure, it's cheesy. but it works. It's too bad McDonald's can't (or won't) do this in American ads.

There hasn't been any uproar in France about the ad and there probably wouldn't have been any here in America either---were it not for right-wing pundit Bill O'Reilly. He highlighted the video on his Fox News show and then proceeded to discuss it with an equally dim-witted Fox analyst who didn't "get it" and referred to the campaign as "over-reaching" Huh? After calling it a "gay friendly" ad O'Reilly stepped right into it by asking "Do they have an Al Quaida ad? OOPS! Bad comparison Bill-o! Naturally The HRC, GLAAAD, and the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force have all come out to denounce O'Reilly.

This week Sen. Orrin Hatch remarked that  "Republicans need to get the money flowing the way the gay community does for Democrats -- though it helps, he said, that gay people aren't distracted by things like religion. Gays and lesbians don't pay tithing, their religion is politics." !!! Coupled with Bill's remarks it's not exactly a great way for conservatives to help kick off Gay Pride month. Way to go,  Bill & Orrin!
