Grabbys Awards 2010

As we mentioned last time our Twitter friends who attended this year's Grabbys Awards posted the winners as they happened enabling us to post them quickly to the Jack Manly Blog. The guys also posted a few comments and pics along the way so that we got a little bit of the flavor of the evening. So, here are the show highlights as well as some of our own thoughts on this year's big show.

If you already saw the list of winners you know that this year's awards were very fair-minded--so much so that there were FOUR ties!. That being said Raging Stallion's Focus/Refocus took home the most awards with six followed by Taken to the Lowest Level, from Channel 1 Releasing with four awards. Studio-wise Channel still took home the most awards with 7 thanks to wins in three other categories. Since we are relying on info posted by several Twitter members we're keeping this as close to factual info as possible.

First, congratulations go out to newcomer Chris Porter who was just signed as a Raging Stallion exclusive! The news came out just before the awards capping off a very good week for the sexy young star. He had just moved to SF and landed a production job with RSS as well as filming a couple of very hot scenes for them before the news broke. It's not much of a risky prediction but we'll bet you'll see Chris' name in next year's nominations.

The first award was for Best Leather Video and it was presented by Zach Alexander & Dean Flynn. Hot House won for Skuff 4 and Brent, the HH creative director accepted on behalf of the studio.  The second award was for Best Videography and it went to Mr Pam for Men of Israel. Unfortunately she's on a trip right now (according to her tweets) so Mike Dreyden accepted on her behalf.

We can tell you that although Jeremy Bilding was voted by fans to co-host the show along with Chi Chi LaRue, Honey West, Diesel Washington, & Roman Heart he was overwhelmed by the hosting duties and tweeted for help several times---at least in the beginning. You could certainly understand considering all the strong personalities up on stage.

The Grabbys didn't seem to have any other live entertainment to break up the awards so they instead relied on film clips. Periodically through the evening they showed clips from the nominees in the Best Movie category. This, along with a few other moments spiced things up. For example, Mandi Boom Boom took to the stage at one point to give a  "special award" to Drew Cutler---a gift basket of some kind. We're sure we'll learn more about this soon.

The first of several happy surprises came when the Best Versatile Performer award was given to veteran Matthew Rush. We don't know what his reaction was but he certainly earned at least one award for the work he's done the past year.

Ryan Raz and Cameron Adams were the next notable presenters for Best Screenplay.  Did you know that these two are also boyfriends? We didn't know this until today. The winner was Dan Rhodes whos intricate script for Focus/Refocus gave the film a voice. Looking back this award was sign of the victories yet to come.
The same could be said a little later when the Best Solo honor went to Adam Killian for Taken.  Adam would also win in the Best Three-Way scene (along with Ty Colt & Leo Giamani) for The Trainer AND co-winner as Performer of the Year

As we mentioned we relied on a few observations from our Twitter friends for interesting show information. Here are a few of of these observations:

---John Bruno was very enthusiastic about winning for Best Art Direction for Asylum.

---Morgan McMichael (Ru Paul's Drag Race) & comedy writer Bruce Vilanch were audience faves as lively presenters. Considering they gave the Hottest Cock awards you can just imagine the repartee.

-- Cody Kyler & super-busy John Magnum presented the Best Cum Scene Award but it was Magnum's odd wig that had people talking. Usually he has a buzzcut so his wearing of a full hairpiece was unusual. No doubt there will be more about this soon.

---Consensus was that the biggest applause of the night went to Gio Caruso although Trophy Stud Brett Swanson elicited a very strong reaction too.

--- Director Jett Blakk was keeping track of the number of porn models with Superman "S" tattoos...Last time he tweeted this the count was 7.

---As we mentioned there were several ties, especially in big categories. When Chi Chi La Rue & the directors from Focus/Refocus won, Chi Chi invited all the other best director nominees on stage. Everyone really seemed to appreciate this classy gesture.

--Marcellas Reynolds from Big Brother presented the Performer of The Year Award and it turned out to be a BB alumni reunion. Of course Steven Daigle (BB 9) was there but so was Dustin Erikstrup (BB8). When is CBS going to give us a gay-centric season?

All in all we were very happy with the results and delighted to see the tie votes. Of course we were rooting for our Man of the Year Samuel Colt but Austin Wilde was deserving as Newcomer of the Year too. That they BOTH won was perfect.

Of course there's likely to be more news coming out of these awards and the weekend so if that happens we'll be updating the blog once more.
