Focus/Refocus Goes Mainstream!

Did you ever think you'd see the day when you'd find an edited gay porn movie at a Blockbuster or Netflix or available for purchase from Amazon? Well, that day is imminent thanks to a deal that Raging Stallion has made with mainstream distribution company Breaking Glass Pictures. The studio has announced that it will be editing its critically acclaimed mega-hit Focus/Refocus into a "non-XXX, retail friendly version" to be released by Breaking Glass on March 30th.
RS director Tony Dimarco apparently is very enthused about the prospect. He directed the non-sex scenes of Focus/Refocus and has specialized in making plot-heavy porn flicks. According to the press release from Raging Stallion Dimarco suggested to president Chris Ward that they "fully film a mainstream retail version for general release". Ward concurred and so they indeed shot the movie with keeping in mind that it could be reworked for general release. Again, according to the press release, distributors seem to be very excited about getting the movie.
The mainstream retail edition of Focus/Refocus will list Tony Dimarco as director because most of the non-sex footage (90%)was shot by him. Chris Ward & Ben Leon directed the rest of the footage (and all three shot the sex scenes) but Ward has noted that this movie really belongs to Dimarco and has earned him solo credit. This non-sex version Focus/ReFocus will be "available through all major retailers."
The behind-the-scenes evolution of this deal also makes for an interesting story. This was something that's been planned for quite awhile. When last year's story-driven hot To The Last Man was made Ward and company had wanted to release it for general release too. In fact we saw this edited down version last year at the official premiere in LA. It wasn't that easy to present the movie without the explicit sex scenes --in fact some had to be left in.
Interestingly it seems that from the beginning of production on Focus/Refocus the idea was to do the opposite of what transpired on To The Last Man. In other words Raging Stallion had in mind to make an indie movie first. Enter Breaking Glass, the distribution company which was formed just a few months ago by two TLA directors Rich Wolff and Richard Ross. It's been reported that Wolff heard about
Focus/Refocus and had a chance to review it for distribution. In order to make it happen he requested that additional footage be shot and that's what happened. In fact twice the amount of time was spent filming non-sex footage than explicit footage. The result pleased Breaking Glass so much that they wanted to release it as soon as possible.
Given all this info, we can't wait to see this soon-to-be-released R-rated version of Focus/Refocus.
