Roughin' It: The Review
Before we watched the new Falcon video Roughin' It we had already seen (and reviewed) the key, well-publicized scene where sexy star Nash Lawler bottoms for the first time. While it's a good scene it's by no means the only noteworthy scene. In fact, Roughin' It is comprised of one noteworthy scene after another, fulfilling some of the hints that Falcon dropped about this movie awhile ago. We were happily surprised to see that Roughin' It isn't just a series of vignettes with a theme. It actually has a loose, fairly light and fun story with dialog and good acting, some of it coming from some unlikely sources.
The story in Roughin' It takes place in a campground where two separate groups of sexy and horny guys have little trouble getting lucky in all manner of situations. The first group of guys is comprised of Trent Davis, Skyler Caine, and Nash Lawler, who is off-screen when the movie opens following title credits accompanied by James Taylor-esque folksy guitar music. Trent & Skyler are at a picnic table when the second group of horndogs Tony Capucci, Ty Colt, Trevor Knight, and Leo Giamani pass them by on their hiking excursion. Trent & Skyler also put dibs on the guys they like (if it were only that easy!).
The four hikers reach their cabin and rest up with some beers before they all get bored and head out into different directions (and sex-filled afternooners). Tony Capucci heads for the community shower to clean up & cool off. His character is a bit of a douche-bag, a trait which isn't lost on his buddies--two of whom take his clothes while he's in the shower. Once he discovers his dilemma he storms off with only his cap to hide his privates. Meanwhile Trevor Knight is off for another hike down to an old barn, Leo Giamani is off to go fishing, and Ty Colt hits the trail in another direction.
At the old barn Trevor Knight finds Jake Woods & Conner O'Reily going at it and he's obviously not content to be a silent voyeur. He turns the scene into a hot & verbal three-way. Actually Trevor is doing most of the vocals, acting like a coach/mentor to the two twinkish dudes. Aside from the fact that Trevor Knight adds a whopping amount of inches to the scene he also livens the scene up. He is one, super-hot dynamic performer that draws out his two scene partners. Without him the scene might have been a little more than a quaint, almost pristine sexual encounter between two young horny guys. He gives both guys a good fuck and in the process shows them how to amp up their performances.
While hiking in the woods Ty Colt finds Nash Lawler who has twisted his ankle. This is this scene which Falcon had released previously but now makes more sense in the context of the rest of the movie. It's an interesting contrast to the previous scene which was down & dirty. Ty takes Nash up to the cabin to tend to his injury but it turns to a remarkably serene sexual encounter. It may seem a little too "hearts & flowers" in tone for you who might be used to seeing these two performers is more rough & tumble scenes but Nash does lose his cherry --and does so rather well. As we mentioned before the lack of kissing here is the one drawback, especially since the scene is has this intimate feel that would have benefited from some passion.
The "non-kissing" syndrome befalls the next scene too which is somewhat of a risk when it comes to the casting of bisexual and "gay for pay" performers. That said, it IS preferable to kissing that looks forced or just plain uncomfortable. Leo Giamani reaches the creek where he plans to go fishing, but there's already some bait waiting for him--Skyler Caine. Since he early put dibs on Leo, it's not a coincidence that Skyler is there sunning himself. A few come hither looks and Leo sits down next to Skyler and before you know the two are blowing each other's sizable wieners. Skyler proves to a pretty verbal bottom for Leo and the two do it right there by the edge of the creek. This turned out to be a perplexing scene for us in several ways: the little dialog here was overdubbed with music, there are several visually detached long shots, and it seems that Leo's cum shot vocals were looped in. Plus, Leo's cock at the moment of orgasm doesn't seem fully hard. Don't get us wrong. We love Leo and his performances but he just didn't seem that he was into his scene here even though he winds up kissing the neck of Skyler Caine when he's unloading.
Tony Capucci, still wearing his cap as a loin cloth finds a lounging Trent Davis and asks to borrow his shorts. Since Trent had also visually zeroed in on Tony earlier he takes down his shorts and offers them up--as well his mouth and ass. He also obliges Tony with a full-throated blow job before bottoming for him. The two actually make a good match-up. It's been awhile since we saw Tony Capucci in action and he's worked on his acting skills since then. We give him high marks here for his efforts to be more than eye candy. As for Trent Davis rwhat more can we say? The guys is a natural and we love watching him in action. Both he and Tony ratchet up the sexual heat here with some vocal repartee. Now here is another example of non-kissing but it doesn't seem to stick out like a sore thumb like the previous scenes.
Roughin' It was written & directed by John Bruno who has a very natural style both in script & direction and that serves him well in this "back to nature" flick. As such he doesn't seem to force his hand too often and just let the chemistry happen on its own. Of course with any film a director has to move things along according to his vision, especially when there's a story but Bruno holds back when necessary. Again, we would have liked to have seen some of the guys push their boundaries all the way or not at all.
