Halloween Night In Weho
The weather was absolutely perfect in LA on Halloween day---dry, warm, and crystal clear so there was every reason to expect a big turnout for the annual West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval. And that's exactly what we got. However this wound up being a perfect storm of hordes of people, too many people. Yes, we had our loyal contingency of creative gay men & women dedicated to wearing creating fun costumes, hunky guys dressed revealingly, super drag, etc. But what we also had were tons of straight people, some dressed not so creatively (sorry gals & guys, a funny hat is NOT a costume) and others not costumed at all....they were there to gawk and clog up the streets & sidewalks. There is no solution to this overcrowding dilemma except maybe to charge entry for non-costumed people but that would be impossible to enforce.
There were some hot guys and sexy outfits and though we didn't take any pics our friend Robert at Real Guys Exposed managed to snap quite a few. You can find the sexy guy pics at the Real Guys Exposed blog (yes this fab new site has a blog too) and his sexy super-hero themed pics at Flicker. It's not that there weren't more great costumes to be seen but those darn non-costumed straights were getting in the way.
As for the other costumes we noticed a few repeats and patterns, some that were strange and inexplicable. Of course there were some lame balloon-boy themed costumes, lots of winged people (from bats to angels and creature in between), leather studs (we're not so sure that wasn't their every day garb, and more super-hero costumes with unrealistic padding. We saw only one Dr Manhattan from Watchmen (his blue paint was starting to wear away) but several Rohrschachs from the same flick. Snow White made several appearances, there were a few guys & gals as Queen Elizabeth I, some fake cops & military personnel, lots of vampires, pirates (lame!), masked wrestlers, furries (again we're not so sure this wasn't their daily attire), etc. There seemed to be a number of Super Marios (don't ask us why), and at least three guys in key-lime pie green unitards (someone please explain).
Lastly there's a friend of ours who got a group together to pay "tribute" to Cirque Du Soleil using some of the outrageous outfits he wore recently at Burning Man. Unfortunately we didn't find him on the street but we did see his pics today--AWESOME! Hopefully we'll see if we can get his permission to post them here.
