Horror Night!

The other night our friend, porn director Jett Blakk invited us to a local revival theatre The New Beverly Cinema to see a double feature (remember those?) of one of his favorite movies The Abominable Dr Phibes and Theatre of Blood, both starring legendary Vincent Price. We joined Jett, Jason Sechrest & Dominik Ryder for a fun-filled even of campy horror that put us right into the mood for Halloween. Ironically the movie house that was showing these 1970s black comedies used to be a adult theatre (straight of course). Even after it became a revival house it still had that semi-sleazy feel of a porn theater because it really wasn't renovated until years later. Fortunately now it's very presentable although it still has that retro feel that's so important for seeing old flicks.
A big thank you goes out to Jett for treating us to a truly fab evening of inspired fun. If you've never seen either The Abominable Dr Phibes and Theatre of Blood we highly recommend them. Naturally we had the benefit of seeing them on the big screen, so if you rent them make sure you have an adequate sized TV to get the full effect. Both films were shot in England and feature large casts of well-known actors of the era. Both films star Price as revenge-minded men who disposes of their victims in clever ways. As we mentioned it's all high camp that delivers the horror without over-the-top blood & gore. The Abominable Dr Phibes also has some fierce costumes---future contestants on Project Runway might do themselves a favor by watching the movie. Theatre of Blood co-stars Diana Rigg, who starred for several years in the classy & classic Brit secret agent series The Avengers. Her character Emma Peel is one our all-time favorite TV characters.
This terrific evening inspired us to do a daily blog entry related to the semi-official gay holiday Halloween. We just know that this year it's going to be extra busy in Weho since Halloween falls on Saturday this time. Nevertheless for those of you who are staying in we'll be giving you alternative tips for making your Halloween as fun AND gay as possible.
