When Porn Stars Retire...

Have you seen any of the coverage of the Hustlaball event that took place in NYC this past weekend? If you haven't you should make your way over to Diesel Washington's blog for some dynamite video footage & coverage of the event (as well as his latest adventures). Spotted at the event was Gus Mattox, another of our all-time faves who retired from the biz over three years ago and broke a lot of hearts in the process. In fact he retired soon after winning the GayVN Performer of the Year for 2006--talk about going out when you're on top. As many of you know Gus Mattox had a dual career in the theater and simply went back to that. He's been busy as you can tell from his blog under his real name.
Seeing Gus Mattox stirred our memories of some of our favorite stars and performers who have quit the biz over the years and the way they did it. Some of them merely dropped out of site. Some made announcements. Some merely embarked on a new career outside of the biz. Other went from performing to producing, directing, or other behind-the-camera mode. This is not meant to be a definitive list, just some of the guys that crossed our minds.
Kent Larson. We REALLY liked this sexy, big & tall star who was in the biz for just a few years a won a Best Newcomer Grabby in 2005. He left the biz a year later to become a personal trainer. Ironically his co-winner Eddie Stone also left the biz to go back to school.
Matt Bradshaw. Another tall stud who was from the South and was in the biz for several years starting in the late 90s. The last we saw of him was in the documentary Sex/Life in LA Part 2.
Phil Bradley. We mentioned him before and this star of the 90s was one we can't ever forget. He quit the biz amid some personal issues and really dropped out of site.
Cory Evans. Another personal fave we mentioned before who made only a handful of movies but again just dropped out of site.
Marcus Iron. An award-winning star who we believe shifted to landscape design (the same with Colt star Pete Kuzak, another fave)
Tommy Brandt. He too made it big in a handful of flicks and then..poof! Gone.
Then there those that retired, got back in for at least a little while, then retired again. Kevin Williams, Chase Hunter,& Jim Bentley are but a few.
Most recently Jason Ridge announced his retirement and that included wiping out his blog. As we mentioned before we were sorry to see him go but we hope he succeeds in his next ventures.
Finally we have a couple of guys who we don't know what they're up to---Johnny Castle & Brodie Sinclair. Both these guys rode in on the wave of "gay for pay" stars a few years ago and seemed to overcome the backlash against this trend. Castle has his own site but hasn't updated it in months. There is a recent video of him at Club Hancock, while we haven't seen Brodie in months. Brodie really was the "it" guy on websites and made it into some big studio films but the last time we think we saw him was on Cocky Boys in the spring. So whether each of these guys has retired from films or not remains a mystery to us. They might be doing shows & appearances so if any of you are aware, let us know.
