Green Door: The Review

We can say this right from the start: Green Door is a classic. We don't think it's a premature exaggeration to state this emphatically or to say that on many levels Steve Cruz & Leif Gobo have redefined the gay porn genre and more specifically the "all-sex" film in their Mustang collaborations. With this fourth director/videographer team-up Cruz & Gobo have again proven that creativity & stylistic filmmaking go a long way into making a gay porn flick memorable and influential and we hope they continue to produce gems like Green Door.
Imagine a gay porn flick crossed with the Twilight Zone and you'll get some idea of what Green Door is like. You never definitively know where or when the action is set in Green Door, only that the title refers to a portal leading to a place where sexual inhibitions are unleashed. Is it a secret club from which no one leaves and becomes a part of forever? Does it take place on this plane of existence? All these imponderables exist but never overshadow a very hot cast matched up in some exceptionally hot sex scenes. Interestingly, unlike the other movies in the Steve Cruz/Leif Gobo "color box" trilogy from Mustang, the vignettes here are tied together as part of a bigger plot, even though it may not be clearly laid out.

Cruz & Gobo follow the basic principles for successful erotica--a good concept, a well-chosen & compatible cast of familiar faces & newcomers, and very hot & well-photographed sex scenes. It may sound easy enough to pull off but Cruz & Gobo have that extra ingredient---creative & instinctive talent. They match up the cast perfectly and the chemistry between the performers is genuine so that each scene is raw & passionate.
The first scene in Green Door finds innocent-looking Luke Riley itching to get into the club eventually does where he's manhandled by hairy muscle stud & porn veteran Zak Spears. You'd expect Zak to be the rough & tough sexual dynamo that you've seen in other films----and he is. But Luke Riley matches him in sexual energy. This is what happens when an aggressive bottom and a hard-driving top meet up--it's downright explosive. Riley may not be as his manly partner, but one deep-voiced utterance from Spears is about all we need to make the scene even hotter.

The next scene is one we reviewed previously when it was made available as a single download from Falcon. Nevertheless in the context of overall theme this pairing of Samuel Colt & Alessio Romero more sense. The two studs look like bikers who have a few beers too many and get into a barfight which turns into a table-top sex scene. As we mentioned before two newcomers impressed us thoroughly. Samuel Colt is more than hairy, muscular eye candy---he's a hot, passionate performer. So often a newcomer top man can be a robotic fuck machine ---not so with Samuel Colt. Even when he's totally dominating Alessio Romero he looks like he's totally connected to him. As for Alessio Romero he has an interesting thing going on too--he's got manly looks with an undercurrent of sweet sensitivity in his eyes. Or maybe we're just projecting.
The next scene is the one that really has an otherworldly quality because it almost feels like it's taking place in another time. Bartender Erik Grant watches as military studs Chad Manning & Beaux Banner smooch it up in front of him. When he joins in, the scene becomes a three-way free-for-all. Each guy gets "equal time" in the scene so you get to see them all demonstrate their versatility. The one guy we're the most impressed with here is "amateur" star Beaux Banner. He's done this stuff before as an "amateur" gay-for-pay/bisexual before but here he seems totally at ease ... must be the direction.
The last scene in Green Door features newcomer Drake Jaden and Nash Lawler, another amateur turned pro. They have more of a "cat & mouse" style of foreplay before they get into it and it's fascinating to watch. Drake Jaden is more the "hot to trot" bottom and with his tattoos & piercings looks forbiddingly dangerous, like a tempting lure to the more All-American, yet scruffy Nash Lawler. Finally Nash relents and they both go all the way once they go into the "secret room". This dynamic tension between two different types of guys with one (Nash) giving in to base carnality brought out by the other is especially hot. We've seen Nash Lawler in action before but it's still good to see him open up his performance style a little bit more. And we LOVE Drake Jaden. He's got a very hot muscle body, shaved head, tatts & piercings, and is hung hard. For this role he's the perfect choice and we look forward to seeing more of him. After the two guys get finished Steve Cruz gives Green Door an eerie, David Lynch style ending. It really works for what transpired before and it gives the entire production some cohesion.
Once again we are completely impressed with the work Steve Cruz & Leif Gobo have done here and in all their Mustang collaborations. They look like they're having fun putting these flicks together and it shows in virtually every aspect of these productions. The beauty of the way they approached their "color box" trilogy is that each movie is different enough to be able to stand on its own merits. And that includes the very memorable Green Door.
