Prism Comics Looking For Volunteers
We've mentioned our love of comics and graphic novels many times before and we're bringing it up again in support of LGBT comics creators and stories. Prism Comics is an important non-profit organization that promotes LGBT comics and this year the group is looking for volunteers at the San Diego Comic Con. Event chair Ted Abenheim sent over a press release with the details and we're pleased to post it here.
This time of year is especially exciting for comic book fans because of the annual San Diego Comic Con. It has grown so much in the past few years that it takes up all the San Diego Convention Center and it sells out months in advance. It has always attracted people from around the globe who gather in appreciation of a very unique and often under-appreciated and misunderstood art form. Artists, writers, publishers, vendors are all present and in recent years movie studios and networks as well as film personalities are a major force. There are very fascinating panel discussions and previews of upcoming projects in both comics and film. As you might expect it has become a media event.
The LGBT community has been represented at the Comic Con for many years now and it will be again at this year's con thanks to organizations like Prism Comics. Here then is the press release:

PRISM COMICS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON
From Ted Abenheim
Event Chair
Prism Comics
The SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON is just around the corner. Once again, the PRISM COMICS will be exhibiting at the Con, and they're looking for volunteers to work at the booth. PRISM COMICS is an all volunteer, non-profit organization promoting LGBT comics creators and stories and LGBT-friendly comics creators - www.prismcomics.org
Volunteers at the Prism Booth will greet people and answer questions about Prism Comics (they'll provide you with information sheets); help sell books; help with creator signings and other activities. Volunteer times slots are approximately 2 hours long at various times from Wednesday, July 22 through Sunday, July 26.
Prism is also looking for volunteers to help at two cool parties - a Womens' Comic-Con Night Dance Party at Rich's Dance Club on Thursday night, July 23 and a Mens' Comic-Con Night Dance Party at Rich's on Friday night, July 24.
If you are coming to Comic-Con and would like to volunteer or would like more information - please write to ted@prismcomics.org with the following info:
1) Your home and/or cell phone number
2) Do you have a 4 day pass for the Con or single days (if single days - which days?)
You will be sent a schedule of volunteer times. Since Comic-Con is sold out, we hoping that our volunteers already have their passes. We cannot provide passes for people who volunteer for one time slot.
The PRISM BOOTH will be THE meeting place for lesbian, gay, bi and transgendered and LGBT-friendly folks at the Con, so volunteering is a lot of fun. If you have friends who are coming to the Con and might like to volunteer, please spread the word, and we hope to see some of you there.
Thanks very much,
Ted Abenheim

In the near future we'll have art for the con and the upcoming Hard Heroes event which will be held on Sunday, August 2nd at MJ's from 4 - 9 pm. Once again it's a benefit for Being Alive in conjunction with The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. More to follow.
