On The Passing Of Icons....
In a week of news that was already full of bizarre political scandal and increasingly tragic circumstances in Iran, two entertainment icons passed away. Strangely enough, both the deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson were untimely, yet not totally surprising. Farrah had been ill for some time and it's almost impossible to imagine Michael Jackson as an elderly man. In a way, we almost expect icons to die tragically or before their time because it's the stuff of legends.
Michael Jackson & Farrah Fawcett were icons in completely different ways but both had phenomenal
peaks and strange low valleys professionally and in their personal lives. Farrah Fawcett was a pop culture icon whose image still has amazing influence thirty years after her best-selling poster was released.
Michael Jackson's talent and influence on music were almost immeasurable. Yet we all know that iconic status is often a house of cards just waiting to fall.
Right now, all the accolades for both of these icons are pouring in as it should be until the negative stuff starts to leak through the cracks. Perhaps the legacy of Farrah Fawcett will fare better in the days and weeks to come because of the circumstances of her fame and ultimate demise. Michael Jackson was such a controversial figure that there's going to be no end of even more bizarre stories and revelations, accusations, etc including the circumstances of his death. We can't and won't go into the psychology of the person that Michael Jackson was from the beginning to the end. Everyone probably has their opinions, memories, & stories so our adding to this inevitable toxic brew would be pointless.
For fans of both these icons, we simply say rest in peace.
