GLAAD Media Awards Part 2

Last Saturday April 18 the second part of the 20th GLAAD Media Awards was held in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre and we've got the results, including the special awards. The bulk of the awards were previously handed out at the New York ceremonies held three weeks prior but this LA show was no less star-studded. Miss Coco Peru was the host for the evening's festivities and Cheyenne Jackson (yum) and Jennifer Holliday performed. Coco also performed Prop 8: The Musical with the LA Gay Men's Chorus!

We've got a brief rundown of the show but for a great recap, pictures, and behind the scenes info we recommend Greg In Hollywood (http://greginhollywood.com/). Actually we heartily recommend Greg In Hollywood for his exceptional entertainment industry coverage. This is not a bitchy or hateful gossip blog but a very upbeat, positive & fun look at the biz. It's always entertaining, often informative, and politically on target. Like so many talented people in the newspaper biz, Greg was laid off but has come back strong as an independent voice. We count his Greg In Hollywood blog as one of our top sources for entertainment news & views.

-- The Vanguard Award was presented to Kathy Griffin by T.R. Knight.  By the way, it's not something that made the news, but Kathy recently did a benefit show for the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center and she worked very hard campaigning against Prop 8. We weren't there at the awards but it would be nice if Coco & Kathy were together on stage ---their hair & makeup is often identical!

-- The  Stephen F. Kolzak Award was presented to Rev. V. Gene Robinson by Dustin Lance Black and Cleve Jones. Robinson is the first openly gay bishop of the Episcopal Chruch and was the invited guests at the Obama inaugural.

-- A Special Recognition Award was given to The L Word (Showtime) by Alan Cumming. Creator Ilene Chaiken accepted the award alongside cast members Jennifer Beals, Leisha Hailey and Katherine Moenning.

  --
Another Special Recognition Award was given to Prop 8: The Musical (FunnyorDie.com) by George Takei & Nichelle Nichols. Director Adam Shankman accepted the award.

---The Outstanding Film – Wide Release Award was won by Milk (Focus Features). Jessica Alba presented the award which was accepted by director Gus Van Sant, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, and producers Bruce Cohen and
Dan Jinks.

 --
The Outstanding Comedy Series Award was presented by Kate Walsh & Alec Mapa to winner  Desperate Housewives (ABC) . Creator Marc Cherry accepted the award accompanied by Teri Hatcher, Dana Delaney, Kyle MacLachlan, Tuc Watkins, Kevin Rahm, Andrea Bowen and
Brenda Strong.

  --
The Outstanding Individual Episode (in a series without an LGBT character) Award went to  "Unidentified Funk" from The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS). Bill Paxton & Teri Hatcher presented the award to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Megan Mullally, Clark Gregg, & show creator
Kari Lizer.

  --
The Outstanding Talk Show Episode Award was presented by Joely Fisher to "Ellen & Portia's Wedding Day" The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated). Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi accepted the award. Considering the fact that Ms Fisher was presenting the award it was probably not much of surprise (Fisher & DeGeneres co-starred on Ellen.)

--The award for Outstanding Spanish-Language TV Journalism - Newsmagazine was presented by Wilson Cruz and Justina Machado to "A juzgar por las apariencias" y "En otro cuerpo" Aquí y Ahora (Univision). The award was accepted by Univision producer Belissa Morillo and Monica Zapata)
