Two More Legends Pass Away: Steve Pierce and Marilyn Chambers
Steve Pierce and Marilyn Chambers, legends of erotica unexpectedly passed away over the weekend. The two came from opposite ends of the spectrum of adult media and from different eras but each had their own unique influence in the vast adult industry. Details on the deaths of these two individuals has not yet been released but we wanted to take this time to present our tributes to each individual.
Marilyn Chambers was a genuine legend in straight porn and remained active in the industry for many years in one form on another. She starred in the classic 1972 flick Behind the Green Door, one of several films which ushered in an era of stars like Linda Lovelace and Georgina Spelvin. Marilyn Chambers was also one of the few performers who was able to cross over into non-adult films such as David Cronnenberg's Rabid. The unique legend of Marilyn Chambers included an early short-lived career as a model, most famously as the woman's face on the Ivory Snow detergent box. When it was revealed later that Chambers and the model were one in the same, Proctor & Gamble scrambled to change the packaging. Marilyn Chambers returned to adult films briefly in 1998 and afterward still did indie films and personal appearances. She died a little over a week shy of her 57th birthday.
Steve Pierce passed away over the weekend in Palm Springs at the age of 44. He had been retired from gay adult films since 2004 but remained an active member of the BDSM & leather community. He is survived by his partner of 20 years whom he married in 2008.
Steve Pierce performed in nearly 40 films starting in 1995 and his resume included for several studios. He starred in films such as Flesh & Blood, The Chosen, Fire In The Hole, Dr Good Glove, Leather Lust, and many more, often with a fetish theme. Handsome & talented Pierce also had other interests which included writing and his first book, the sci-fi novel World Without Winter was published in 2008.
We didn't know either of these two people personally so it would be discourteous to write as though we did. But already we've seen some quotes from several people who worked with these two talented individuals. From this we've perceived that both Marilyn Chambers & Steve Pierce were well-liked and respected by their peers and fans, loved by their families, friends, and partners. They were individualists who seemed happy with their choices and not bound by regrets.
