The Reality Of Gay For Pay

We wonder what the ratings were like for that recent Tyra Banks show that explored the "gay for pay" thing because now MTV is devoting an episode of True Life to the subject. Its not as though the cable show hasn't already touched on the subject since Aaron James was once featured on an episode. Aaron was one of the guests on that Tyra show so it's possible MTV saw him and got the idea to explore the subject more in depth.

The title of the upcoming episode is "True Life: I'm Gay for Pay," which will "explore the lives of young heterosexuals who pretend to be gay for a living." MTV has put out a "casting call" for people who work in porn, gay clubs, escorts, etc in the 16-28 age group. It certainly will be interesting to see who answers the call and whether they'll get any ringers. You know, guys who are gay pretending to be straight dudes posing as gay.

If you're one of many who dislikes the idea of straight guys pretending to be gay in porn and elsewhere this upcoming episode probably won't sit too well with you. It probably won't console you to know that this has been going on in gay porn for decades. The term "gay for pay" wasn't bandied about as glibly in days gone by but some of the biggest stars of the past identified themselves as straight---Jeff Stryker, Rex Chandler, Peter North, Ryan Idol, Jon Vincent, and others (these are just the ones that pop into mind). Most fans didn't think of them a true straight men, rather bisexual or closeted. We wonder if any of these guys would have trouble becoming stars in today's market with this seemingly crowded and growing field of g4p studs.
