A New Day

At this time we'd like to take a moment to reflect on a day that was perhaps like no other before it but whose aura we hope lasts for days, weeks, months, and years to come. For many of us this Inauguration Day was a long time coming. For so many others this day was TOO long coming and we should all do our best to keep the spirit of this day alive. We should not ignore nor forget nor take for granted the meaning of the words we heard today. There is so much to be done and accomplish and history has taught us that when we failed to seize the moment and act, the chance was gone. When we relied too heavily on others in power to be the sole instruments of our hopes and dreams, they faded away.

In this past year when youthful voices and their relentless energy were inspired by Barack Obama many cynics felt that they would not show up when the time came. But these cynics were wrong and not only did the youth show up, they organized and inspired others to get involved and be just as energized. After 8 years of George Bush and a failed right wing we rejoiced once again. The challenge now is to keep this energy & vitality alive to continue the change we desperately need.

It won't be easy. In January of 1993 the sense of change and hope was crushed by dissenting voices who were not happy until they had usurped power and destroyed others in the process. We cannot be naive or foolish to believe that these same voices are not planning to repeat that same history once again. Limbaugh, Hannity, Malkin, Coulter, O'Reilly, and many others do not want Obama to succeed so we must remain vigilant and strong and do our share to guarantee that these right wing voices do not succeed as they did before. We must always remember that they don't want people to come together from all parties and work together.

Much will happen and much will be attempted in the days to come by this new administration and we intend to do our share to make sure that good will prevail. We think that we are in for some surprising successes in civil rights for ALL, in our healing of the planet, in our quest for peaceful co-existence, etc. We don't want the spirit of this day to vanish and we believe many, many others have that same hope and intent to keep it going.
