Our Favorite Adult Flicks of 2008
2008 turned out to be a very interesting year for the major studios. Many more studios recognized the online video market and created more of a presence with new sites, retooled sites, and exclusive content. Plus, there was a much-publicized effort to sign online video performers to their productions. Yet there were many high-profile, high production value movies produced and released in spite of (and in answer to) the growth of this online video market. Thus, we added this category to our Best of 2008 lists ---Our Favorite Adult Movies of 2008.
When it came to choosing our favorite porn flicks of 2008, we paid attention to the production values, the stars and their performances, the scripts (when they existed), etc. But we also used the more obvious criteria which is a little more personal, essential, and unique to this genre--it's sexual value. Our favorites got us excited and made us want to watch the sex scenes again. In alphabetical order here are our top picks--some of which we've yet to give full reviews:
Best Men Parts 1 & 2: The Bachelor Party & The Wedding Party (Falcon). While these two are separate videos they form an entire story and we couldn't separate them. Falcon put together a big cast of newcomers and exclusives in this story and the chemistry isn't always there but when it is it's hot. Some of the newbies need to work on their acting and some vets walked through this video, but several scenes made up for it. Even though they were forged out of controversy the two best scenes were with Zeb Atlas & Matthew Rush and Atlas & Adam Killian.
Blue Movie (Mustang). Porn star Steve Cruz directed this stylized and fascinating tribute to 70s and 80s male porn with a modern twist. It takes place ON a porn set with the trappings of vintage porn, generic porn music, and sexy actors. But Cruz skillfully recreates the feel without mimicking old porn and creates an interesting mash-up.
Copperhead Canyon (Titan Men). One director we can always count on is Joe Gage. This rural themed flick involves an escaped convict and lots of sex in the great outdoors. It's also got a subtle tongue in cheek wit that makes this a lot of fun.
The Drifter (Raging Stallion). A surprisingly effective drama, romance, and sex flick that really made us notice Logan McCree. It's true that some of the scenes seem like filler but it all builds to slow, intense sexual finale that while expected has great impact.
Endgame (Dirty Bird Pictures). Filmmaker Jett Blakk created a very moody, psychologically suspenseful sex flick that has everything going for it. It's well-written, well-acted, and the videography is inspired. A great combo of a poignant story and hot sex scenes.
Folsom Prison (Titan Men). This entry in the popular series stood out from the rest by using the prison theme effectively. Gritty and dark, this one de-romanticizes the jail theme but heightens its sexual power.
Funhouse (Titan Men). While this dreamily sexy video is the thematic follow-up to Cirque Noir, it's definitely not as disturbing. Two guys ride a carnival funhouse ride with live action displays that become very hot sex scenes. Vinyl fetish wear gets a nice boost here, although those with a clown phobia best shut your eyes.
Hotter Than Hell Parts 1 & Hotter Than Hell Part 2 (Raging Stallion). Another full story stretched over two parts so as a whole it's very hot. Nevertheless the story in part one is more compelling--it's all about sexual obsession with a supernatural twist. Steve Cruz hits all the right notes as a guy you root for early on and yet you can't wait to see get his comeuppance. Ricky Sinz as the Prince of Darkness? Inspired.

Hung Country For Young Men (Jet Set). The title alone gets kudos but it's not a porn remake of the award-winning film. The drifter here comes to a town populated by horny men and sexual escapades ensue.
A really sexy cast makes this one worth going back to for multiple viewings.
Jock Itch (Raging Stallion). Jake Deckard directs and stars in this series of vignettes with a common theme--sports gear. It's really an excuse to indulge Jake's fetish for jockstraps, gear, etc but we're all for it when everyone seems to be having so much fun here.
King Size (Hot House). A very memorable debut by Kyle King as he shows off his versatility and sexual attractiveness in some hot scenes. It's a gutsy move to put him in scenes with some very hot stars but it works perfectly.
Malibu Heat (Falcon). A minimal plot about the goings on at a ritzy resort but som very hot scenes result. Once again a great use of newcomers and seasoned guys that seems to work throughout.
Massive (Colt Studios). The signature Colt video of muscle sex vignettes just never seems to go out of style but it gets an extra boost with newcomer Ricky Parks as well as Mitch Branson & Darin Hawk.
Paging Dr. Finger (Hot House). Oh sure, it was a silly title but it was really nice to see HH return to the doctor theme again. The impressive cast really seemed like they were into their scenes too and surprised us with their acting. Of note--Ty LeBeouf, Ross Hurston, and Trevor Knight.
Splish Splash (Colt/Buckshot). The plot-free premise is a pretty well-worn theme of poolside sex but Colt puts a fresh touch on it with its choice of models with an emphasis on the younger sleeker jock types.
To The Last Man (Raging Stallion). One of the biggest films of the year that lived up to its hype and publicity. A very ambitious big-budget production and you can see every dollar up on the screen. It's an intense flick from beginning to end and everyone involved gives 100%.
Trunks 5 (Hot House). The poolside sex genre again but it's really livened up with a cast for every taste. There's not one scene in this steamy video that isn't hot and worth watching again.
Up Country (Ridgeline Films). One of our all-time favorites Jason Ridge wrote, directed & is featured in this one from his own company. He has a deft touch here with his pairings of hot performers and getting them to be very natural and not male porn-bots. Ridge showed he learned a great deal from being on both sides of the camera and forged his own style.
