GayVN Awards To Include Websites!

Yesterday the nominating site for this year's GayVN Awards went live and this announcement also included some significant changes for the 11th annual awards. The most important change is that for the first time the GayVN Awards will include website nominations--there are 9 new categories this year and 6 of them specifically relate to websites. So it finally appears that the powers that be are recognizing the impact and the increasing influence of online video sites. More on that in a bit.

As you might have read, the prestigious GayVN Awards are returning to the Castro Theater in SF after a year where it was held at the Gift Center. The awards will take place on March 28 as part of a three-day weekend of events and while there has been no word on the host(s) for any of these events and the awards show, the relocation to the Castro is good news for long time porn fans.

Last year's GayVN Awards included 42 categories, not including the "Hall of Fame" awards, and they have included a virtually every kind of video genre, scene, etc. Admittedly as awards go, the Grabbys have a few more "colorful" nominations although not as many categories as the GayVN Awards. However, as you can see from the new categories GayVN is attempting to broaden the spectrum a little more.

  The new categories are:

   Best Top
   Best Bottom
   Best Cum-shot
   Best Amateur Website
   Best Twink Website
   Best Bear Website
Best Web Performer of the Year
Best New Web Performer of the Year
   Best Website of the Year

Now as we mentioned above, the last six of these categories are specifically concerned with websites although the first three categories doesn't exclude websites either. By the same token, these web-oriented nominations could include sites that are connected to major studios. It will be fascinating to see who gets nominated. Stay tuned.
