A Time To Reflect
At this special time in the hours before Christmas day officially begins we feel moved to take a break from all the hustle and bustle of the site and just reflect. Somehow, because of the hard times we are facing as a nation and globally, this holiday season seems much more meaningful to us. Maybe it's because the poor state of the economy has forced us to be less materialistic. It's possible that we're little kinder to those who don't have much at all this year. And it could be that the prospect of a new President and a new direction has made us more hopeful. If it's one or all of these reasons or something else entirely we're basking in the glow of this feeling right now.
I, your faithful yet anonymous writer of this blog, felt the spirit of the season very deeply while attending a family get together. Yes there were absent loved ones, some not in attendance and others who are dearly departed. But we all felt the love and joy of being together and that made for a memorable evening. When I returned home I was greeted with gusto and enthusiasm by my dear dog. I turned on the Christmas lights outside and on the tree and once my little dear calmed down, there was a serene peaceful feeling all around. Even the soft gentle rain that began to fall seemed tranquil.
I thought that I couldn't be the only one that was enjoying this depth of emotion so I decided to check on my Facebook friends and see what they were up to. Maybe I was reading too much into their posts but I found that they WERE feeling it too. In the spirit of the season (and their own anonymity), I'd like to share their posts with you.
"Miss E is having the best Christmas ever! And...may have found the one! =) Merry XMAS to all!!"
"Mr J has four little dogs on his lap and kahlua in his coffee"
"Mr L is thankful for the guy at the gym who picked up my favorite HAT that I left there last weekend and got it back to me today!!"
"Mr DJ is totally enjoying Xmas Eve with Mom and Dad. Then is going to bed to await visions of sugar-plums."
"Mt T is doing what everyone does on Xmas eve...Eating Micka's MacN'Cheese, watching Hellboy2, and waiting for Santa!"
"Mr D wants to know who says it's ok for wind chills to be -14??"
"Mr E isn't sure if he's been naughty or nice. Maybe both?"
"Mr S wishes all his goy friends a merry christmas!"
"Mr JS wishes everyone a Safe and Happy Holidays...!!!"
"Mr C is collecting toys tonight for kids in Philly.."
"Mr G hopes that all of you have a festive and joyous holiday and that all your Christmas wishes and dreams come true!"
The beauty of all these spur of the moment sentiments is that you couldn't tell from the wording or the thoughts behind many of them who were prosperous, who were struggling, etc.
In the spirit of this night and the day ahead we wish all of you who read this the joy of the season.
