Cybersocket Web Awards
The 9th Annual Cybersocket Web Awards nominations were recently announced and you can now vote for your favorites here through December 31. The awards ceremony will be held in LA in February 2009 honoring the best GLBT websites in both "Surfer Choice" categories and "Industry Choice" categories. Websites were placed in nomination online and the top vote getters make up the voluminous list.
Essentially the Cybersocket Web Awards is akin to the gay adult website version of "people's choice" type awards from the nomination process to the actual awards. That's why you'll see a great deal of variety among the nominees. The only drawback to this is the "ballot-stuffing" syndrome in spite of the rule that states "Only one submission per email address - extras will automatically be deleted." As we've seen in other such voting procedures, the rule doesn't take into consideration the fact that companies and individuals often have multiple e-mail addresses.
In any case those of you who are interested should visit the site to check out the complete list of nominations. In the coming weeks we'll take a look at some of the categories and give you our take on them. For now we have a few observations about the nominees.
Cocky Boys. We're delighted to see this site get nominated for both Best Amateur Site and Best Original Content. Since Kyle Majors took over in the summer of 2007, Cocky Boys has kept on going and improving and has never looked back. Many of you already know that we consider this a quality site, and that opinion comes from our professional and personal dealings with the site. Week after week it's a pleasure to recommend this site for its content and for the great people behind Cocky Boys.
Cody Cummings. It was a very pleasant surprise to see Cody get a nomination and in the Best Personality category. You probably already know from our many blogs about Cody that we think he's the hottest person in the category both in person and on his site. The competition is stiff (so to speak) in this category so we hope he gets the plentiful votes he deserves. Cody Cummings is straight although he willingly goes halfway on the gay-for-pay thing. More importantly he's gay friendly and his fans have figured that out too, hence their casting their votes to get him nominated.
Next Door Studios. Almost across the board this company and its affiliates were recognized. Aside from the aforementioned Cody Cummings, Next Door Studios was also represented by Next Door Pass (Best Mega Site), Next Door Male (Best Amateur Video Site), Nude Male Dancers (Best Amateur Webcam), and Next Door Buddies (Best Original Content). Affiliated website Visconti Triplets was also nominated in the best new site category.
FratMen (Best Amateur Webcam) and FratPad (Best Live XXX Show and Best Reality Site). If awards were given for the sheer bounty of beautiful jocks alone, then both these sites would win like gangbusters. We question whether FratMen belongs in the category and not in Best Amateur Site but who wants to argue with a nomination? As for FratPad there's almost no question about its nominations. 7 days a week, 14 hours a day of live shows featuring total mega-studs. And it's always fun.
Men at Play. This site with a simple and consistent "men in suits" theme has grown so much creatively and built a fanbase along the way enabling it to be nominated in FOUR categories (Best Amateur Site, Best Original Content, Best Fetish Site, and Best European Theme Site). Men at Play proves that quality trumps just about everything else.
As we mentioned, we'll have more on the individual categories and our suggestions for sites and categories that should have been included.
