Normally we try and keep this blog entertaining and light, but there are times when we can't simply ignore or fail to report something dark and disturbing and criminal. This time we're speaking of the assault & rape of adult star Mason Wyler. You read that correctly. The 24 year old gay adult film star was attacked, beaten and raped over the weekend in a bizarre and tragic sequence of events Mason wrote about in detail at his MySpace blog and his website. If you haven't heard about this in the press, it's probably because many initially viewed this as a twisted hoax. In fact when we first we alerted to Mason Wyler's blog entry about this tragedy we were skeptical as were many of those who wrote comments at the blog.  However, late yesterday Mason Wyler emphatically denied that this gruesome crime was another story/sex fantasy from his imagination. If YOU have any doubts we urge you to read Mason's entries at the links we listed above. If the crime itself doesn't disturb you then the aftermath certainly will.  In fact we'd be doing a disservice to Mason by reprinting any of his words here or showing pictures. You NEED to read it all for yourself.

  We can summarize for you what happened. Mason lost his wallet and offered a reward and a military vet responded to the ad. Mason invited him in and after giving back the wallet the guy asked for his reward which Mason half-jokingly responded to with a sexual advance. Unfortunately the scene quickly turned ugly as the military vet turned on Mason Wyler and beat him and raped him and called over friends later on to have their way with him too. After this ordeal ended Mason called the police and the treatment he received from the authorities was another ordeal in itself. As you'll find when you read this whole story, Mason Wyler has given up on getting justice and he is going through a great emotional upheaval right now.

 As we mentioned when Mason first posted the story of this tragedy, many didn't believe him and his My Space comments section turned into a heated discussion among his fans. Much later Mason had to post several entries to not only state for the record that this wasn't a hoax and to illustrate how psychologically damaged he was too.
So, why did people not believe his story? For one thing, it wasn't in the mainstream press. For another, not too long ago Mason had posted a couple of rape sex fantasies he had written and many people thought this was another one--especially since Mason chose to write about this incident as a "news story". 

  As a rape victim Mason Wyler is going through a great deal right now. His outlets are his blogs although many have urged him to take stronger actions. Hopefully within the next few days we will feel empowered enough to do just that and notify other authorities other than the police. Rape is still a very under-reported crime because of the shame and society's continuing tendency to make the victim feel responsible.
