The Jett Blakk Files

As we mentioned on a previous entry we wanted to take a look at the films of Jett Blakk. if you notice, we used the word "films" because for the most part that is an accurate description of the works of this prolific director, writer, cinematographer, etc. He came from mainstream films (be sure and check out his bio) and being a film buff and student he has managed to inject that into work. Oh sure, we're not kidding ourselves---these are essentially gay porn flicks. But as you'll see, Jett Blakk makes them more memorable with good storytelling, healthy wit, and an ambitious visual style. From looking over his filmography we see someone who is rethinking the way "porn" is created and presented to an audience without going for the lowest common denominator or forgetting that this is erotica.
Now, because Jett Blakk has done so much we just haven't seen it all and couldn't give you a full-fledged overview of his stuff. Instead we strongly urge you to visit his site and check out his filmography. It was an eye-opener for us and piqued our curiosity big time---we'd love to go back and see some of those early films like Leather After Midnight and the Leather Intrusion series. Did you know that it's a four-part serial with a great plot and cliffhanger endings? Tanner Reeves is gay detective Ski with a homophobic partner Stoli played by Drew Andrews. The character names sound familiar? It's part of that Blakk wit. The two go undercover into the leather world to find a criminal (The Dragon) and his boss The Spider who are dealing in a street drug called Rawhide. Along the way are plot twists like mind control and death traps, along with some hot sex scenes.
As we mentioned you can learn a lot about the career of Jett Blakk from his informative bio but we wanted to give an overview of our faves from what we've seen.
Drifter (1998). Sweatshop. Written & photographed by Jett Blakk. You can see Jett's style all over this unique film as Chris Dano bottoms for the first time. While a guy's wife is away, he finds the title character (played by Dano) in his backyard and invites him in. There's more to this guy than meets the eye as the husband soon finds out. Thanks to the drifter inner and outer truths are revealed. Surprisingly profound.
Damnation (2000). All-Worlds. Jett Blakk returns with another plot-heavy sexfest involving an officer uncovering a secret organization going on at a military base--and it involves leather culture. Jett obviously loves the genre and likes the theme of seductive nature of leather to draw guys in.

Father Figure 2 (2002). All-Worlds. Jett wrote & photographed this one which is more fully realized than the original. This time the theme is carried through the entire film in lots a sex fantasies. The acting is better too although it does make you wish for Jett Blakk to step in and take the reins.
The Bombadier (2002) Red Evil Entertainment. A real turning point. With his own studio Jett Blakk gets the chance to explore his affinity for well-crafted, well photographed stories and sexy scenes. It's got an intricate (and involving) plot that we don't want to spoil. A guy with troubling dreams undergoes hypnosis and revisits his past life as a closeted WWII pilot. Lots of intrigue and hot sex. Starring one of our faves Jason Ridge.
Nasty Nasty (2003). Red Devil. A standout tribute to Hollywood thrillers. Jason Ridge stars as good/evil twins separated at birth who have grown up to lead contrasting lifestyles--one is a hustler, the other a hairdresser. There's again an intricate story involving crossed lives, mistaken identities, gangsters, and more. There are also some nifty cinematic effects with the opening titles, split screens, and special effects---all done pretty darn well considering the budget. A porn film for movie buffs who can see the homages at work.
Don Juan: Sins of The Flesh (2003 ) Pac Sub. More of Jett's interest in the supernatural finds Don Juan narrating his own story of how he wound up in hell. Plenty of sexy stuff here and cinematic tributes to films old and new. We could mention them here but not everyone would appreciate them. Suffice to say it all works.
Sexual Urban Legends (2003) All Worlds. A witty sex satire with a series of really hot vignettes. New Hollywood gets the homage this time and it features Jason Ridge and Chad Hunt.

Canvas (2003) Red Devil. That erotic thriller style that Jett Blakk started in his early leather films returns. Comes with the subtitle "The Art of Seduction is Murder" and that says it all. All about an ad-man's idea to salvage his career. By now it's very obvious that Jett Blakk doesn't just love a good plot--he really knows how to direct actors like star Jason Ridge.
Husband By Day, Hustler At Night (2004) All Worlds. A flipped version of those made-for-TV potboilers where the wife trurns tricks while the husband is at work. Who else but Jett Blakk could add in intrigue and blackmail and thereby create a tense storyline. Once again nice polt details make this even sexier--and what an ending!
French Kiss (2004). Red Devil. Ah Paris! City Of romance--and sex. Filmed on location in the City of Lights, Nick Capra stars among some sexy Frenchmen in somesexy fantasies. He also bottoms forthefirst time. Maybe it's the location but Jett really is inspired to produce some great visuals.
Dirty Little Sins (2005) Red Devil. Jason Slader bottoms in this plot driven film that actually features spiritual themes too. Very compelling and romantic amidst all the hot sex.

Mars Needs Men (2005). All Worlds . A tongue-in-cheek period piece set in the late 1930s using the Mars invasion hysteria as a backdrop. Once again Jett deftly mixes humor & sex and adds a cute twist
at the end. Oh yes, and another sexy turn by Jason Ridge.
Drifter 2: Like Father, Like Son (2005) Sweatshop. Chris Dano returns, this time to get involved in a strained father/son relationship. Can you say "sexual healing"? This time Jett is in full control and it shows. Not as disturbing as the original movie but not light-hearted fare either.
Bonesaw (2006) Adonis. Written & directed by Jett Blakk who again shows deftness in mashing up genres. It's a combo of modern horror and gay erotica and it works great. Jett's talent in editing and cinematography shine through and he manages to instill seriousness in the perfrormers' acting.
Masque (2006) Oh Man! Again written & directed by Blakk and it's another treat for literary & film buffs. Few probably even know the Poe story or the role it played in the silent version of Phantom of the Opera, but Blakk does and he updates perfectly for gay erotica. In doing so he actually adds social commentary into the mix. All that aside this is one hot sex romp too.
How To Seduce a Straight Man (2006 ) Red Devil. We've all had the fantasy in the title and Jett writes and directs four scenes heavy on the art of seduction. We've seen the theme before but in Blakk's hands the scenarios seem fresh AND believable.
Dante (2006) Jett co-directed this one with screenwriter and performner Ty Hudson. You guessed it-the gay eroric version of Dabte's Inferno. Once again the classics are used to perfection and though Jett only has limited involvement Hudson is obviously inspired by his style.
Dare (2007) Falcon. There have been sequels to gay erottic films but hardly ever a remake. And that's what Jett has done very convincingly as writer & director. The title doesn't just reflect the plot it reflects Jett's daring in updating a Falcon classic. Ostensibly it's a road trip movie with multiple characters and intricate plots that all converge. Great all-star cast too.
Unspeakable (2007) Oh Man! Written & directed by JB it's probably his most controversial film. It's all about a Nazi hunter who falls for the grandson of one of the war criminals he's pursuing. Obviously there's lots of sex involved but there's also relistic soul-searching. It's also got flashbacks and period drama mixed in to make this pretty sweeping for a gay porn.
Father Knows Best (2007) Dirty Bird. Directed by JB where he takes on a forbidden fantasy of a dad lusting after his' daughter's fiancee. Kinda kinky but with the JB twist--Tory Mason as the aspiring son-in-law has a gay porn past and this excites dad more. Circumstances lead to a moment of truth but there's one more twist at the end.
Mug Shots (2008) Dirty Bird. More crrime drama from JB. A thief is wrongly accused of a bigger crime and is out to prove his innocence. Drugs, mob bosses, horny police, gay secrets----it's like a gay Sopranos--and yeswith a twist at the end.
Of course, there's the upcoming Endgame and knowing Jett Blakk's style we can't wait!
