Titan has had a lot of success with rural themes and settings over the years and when director Joe Gage is involved you can count on something memorable. That's the case with Copperhead Canyon. It's a sex-driven cops 'n' robbers story set in the Colorado woods with just the right amount of story and sex to keep most viewers satisfied. The acting and the action may seem a little low key considering the inherent drama of the plot, but the sexual chemistry of all involved makes up for any perceived cinematic weaknesses.

 The story is relatively simple but it does manage to incorporate time-honored gay sex fantasies along the way. In fact Copperhead Canyon may remind you of a Tom Of Finland strip dramatized for video. Matthew Ford plays a rural police officer in pursuit of criminal Bill Madison who managed to escape from custody while being transported across a quiet country road. Along the way both characters find some sexual encounters to keep themselves (and the audience) satisfied.  There are a few side plots peppered throughout until things come to "bad guys must pay" conclusion.

 Scene one exemplifies what works and what doesn't about Copperhead Canyon. Matthew Ford displays an authoritative air as the police officer but Bill Madison could use a little emoting as the criminal who is being transported. He hardly seems that dangerous, as though he had been arrested for selling moonshine. Madison escapes during a roadside pee break (oh yes, urine is heavily featured in this one!) and ties the officer and a hapless strawberry blond hitchhiker Luke Riley together to a tree while he makes off in the patrol car. Apparently tying rope isn't one of his talents because Riley manages to undo his knots and get free--only to get on his knees, unzip the officer's trousers and suck him off. Officer Madison returns the favor and "deputizes" Riley so the two can team up in pursuit of Madison.

 Using  the car and the officer's cell phone Bill Madison calls up one of his cohorts Dean Flynn to arrange a getaway RV (now that's not conspicuous!) Flynn takes the call while peeing in the bathroom (of course!) and afterward he's "delayed" by an encounter with his son's college buddy played by Kurt Wild. Flynn discovers Wild has the hots for him and slowly, almost agonizingly so, seduces him. It's a very hot scene with a slight taboo aspect to it and Wild and Flynn are pitch-perfect together. They actually get it on twice here, first in a mutual suck and j/o scene then a hot top/bottom sequence. In many ways this scene is the highlight of the film. We can even overlook the idea that Dean Flynn is playing a dad role. Be sure and see the scene all the way through for the cute twist.

 Meanwhile more of Bill Madison's cronies (apparently he has a big network of them) have a couple scenes.  Chad Manning & Leed Scott are getting the RV ready and their sexy chit-chat (involving their sons--how early do these guys start procreating?) turns to a mutual suck and fuck scene. It's not as intensely erotic as the previous scene but it does the trick. Chad Manning's natural acting ability tends to overshadow that of Scott who seems a little miscast as a country dad. 

 Ago Viara & Joe Strong play the other cronies who are hot for each other too and get it on in the woods. This urban thug types REALLY seem out of their element here and their scene seems a bit like filler and doesn't advance the story one bit. However it does elevate their characters to a higher level of importance as witnessed later.  

 Then there's a scene that is reasonably hot but bears NO relation to the rest of the movie except in theme. Wolf Hudson and Antonio Milan are escaped cons who get out of their prison garb and are stopped in the buff by Officer Rick Powers.  No surprise here, the three get it on and exchange pleasant good-byes as though they just met at a local bar.

 Finally, Matthew Ford and Luke Riley catch up with Bill Madison and his henchmen Strong & Viagra. As though all concerned haven't had enough, the re-arrest of Madison involves a little revenge sex. It's not exactly an orgy and we're not sure what kind of deal is made but the movie concludes full circle. 

 As we mentioned Joe Gage's touch is all over Copperhead Canyon. He knows a lot about pacing whether its the story, the actors' delivery of lines, or the seduction and sex scenes. As we saw it, Copperhead Canyon could have used a little editing out of that one scene that was totally outside the plot. If it had to be padded any one of the other scenes could have been extended. Then there's the slow-witted throwaway character played by Jeff Slurry. In his one non-sexual scene with Manning & Scott he's there as some kind of stereotypical country bumpkin comic relief and that's about it. 

  Finally we have to commend Titan for keeping it simple. Copperhead Canyon isn't riddled with out-of-place fetish material that seems to have crept into many of its productions. So if you looking for a video that is a good watch and distracting in a good way, we recommend Copperhead Canyon.
