Subway Vs Kurt Wild (and us)

A few days ago it was reported that porn star Kurt Wild lost his job at Subway in St Louis when a customer who recognized the 22-year-old threatened to boycott the eatery unless Wild was fired. Wild has contended that doing porn in general wasn't the deal-breaker, but he believes he was fired because it was gay porn. Ironically, Kurt Wild is married with three kids and identifies himself as straight. Yeah, we rolled our eyes at that too considering he's a somewhat enthusiastic bottom in movies and at online video sites. Recently he's been in Splish Splash from Colt/Buckshot and Copperhead Canyon from Titan

Why Kurt Wild didn't fight this apparent discrimination is a bit odd, especially since he's embarked on an e-mail campaign to get the gay community to boycott Subway. He contends that if he had been found to have done straight porn this wouldn't have been an issue. In his eyes, if he had been as woman if would have been ok, and if he had been a guy doing straight porn it would have been something to brag about. It sounds to us that he does have grounds for some kind of lawsuit although it would be hard to prove his contention that Subway wouldn't have fired a straight porn guy.

There is a larger point in all this that seems to be overlooked on blogs and by Kurt Wild himself, although he briefly touches on it in his e-mail. The customer who complained didn't want someone who did gay porn to be preparing his food. Okay, but by giving into his demands Subway open the door for more trouble. Does the company have a morals clause. If not, then a gay boycott solves very little. The  ACLU or other civil rights groups should be notified. Why? Think about it. The only difference between Wild and any other Subway employee is that his sexual encounters were filmed. As far as we know, any number of Subway employees could be more promiscuous than Kurt Wild. If a disgruntled ex of an employee went into a Subway and demanded they get fired because they knew how much sex they had, it's doubtful the restaurant would let their employee go.

Now, it's great to join in on a letter campaign to Subway and boycott the company, but that is only a part of the action that interesting parties can take. As we said, civil rights organizations can do much more and they need to be contacted. It's true that Subway might settle out of court if the specter of punitive damages and bad press were involved. And it's doubtful that Kurt Wild would even WANT to go back to working there. Ironically working there seems a comedown from his adult work!
