Huskers Do!: FratMen Studs Booted Off Nebraska Team

We figured this would happen.  A few days ago we reported that two University of Nebraska wrestling stars were found to have done some scenes for FratMen (see Real College Wrestlers at Frat Men). And today we've learned that the two have been "dismissed" from the team. Incoming senior Paul Donahoe and junior Kenny Jordan were let go mere days after a blog posted images of the sexy dudes from FratMen.  Donahoe is from Michigan and was an NCAA title winner in 2007 and placed third in 2008 but his career at Nebraska is over although he is still interested in wrestling according to FratMen.

The way this whole thing played out the past few days was a bit odd on one hand and a bit hypocritical and homophobic on the other hand.  According the NCAA rules athletes are prohibited from appearing in pictures for commercial use. Seems pretty clear cut that Donahoe and Jordan had to be dismissed on that reason alone. The rule doesn't say anything about what kind of pictures--it just says pictures. If the university had just left it at that, then the institution could move on and still be regarded as a relatively liberal-minded school. But no, the wrestling coach added his own statement that was meant to put a punctuation mark on the matter and instead added fuel to the fire.

"The history of behavior of these men, including the current matter, does not reflect the standard of excellence we aspire to on and off the mat. We have outstanding student-athletes in our program and we will move forward in a positive manner toward our goals. I want to personally apologize for any embarrassment that may have been caused for our athletic department, the university and our fans."

Huh? "the history of behavior?" Well, apparently these two guys previously have had "run-ins" with the law before. Donahoe has paid fines for "maintaining a disorderly house" (oh my God, call the police! My neighbor hasn't vacuumed in weeks!) and "having an open alcohol container" (sounds like typical college behavior to us!) while Jordan has "possessed or consumed alcohol as a minor" and paid fines for trespassing and assault. So, apparently these transgressions weren't enough to get them kicked off the team, but beating their meat on camera was. Typical.  We wonder if the university would have been quite so moralistic if the guys did straight porn. You know, the old "boys will be boys" defense.

There is a glimmer of hope for the two athletic studs. They can apply to the NCAA for reinstatement if they want to wrestle for another school (we recommend UCLA since FratMen films in LA). And according to FratMen the guys still want to wrestle. We tend to agree with the owner of FratMen who was reported as saying this really is a matter of generational differences in attitudes about porn.

Unfortunately while today's younger generation is not so bent out of shape over doing porn and they don't feel there's a "stigma" they aren't in charge of things--yet.
