here! does! porn!
The GLBT cable channel here! will be delving into a subject matter pretty well suited to us (and probably many of you) when it airs a new documentary series this winter about the lives of sixteen men all in the same profession---gay porn. Everything You Wanted To Know About Gay Porn Stars *but were afraid to ask will be comprised of six 30-minute episodes and a one-hour special that will cover all topics in a series of interviews and in-depth looks into the private lives of guys (past & present) who have been involved in the gay adult film industry.
While we have seen this subject matter dealt with before in films we don't think it's been covered to this extent and certainly not on TV. Nevertheless we had to chuckle at the title of the series. Since when would be afraid to ask ANY thing about the lives of porn stars? Learning more is what we live for! That said, it sounds like the series will deal with the fun stuff and the bad. There will be topics like how the families of the porn actors feel about their "careers", the drug use, the dangers and drawbacks as well as some of the bright side.
We thought it interesting that the series sounds like it will humanize the sixteen actors as opposed to being an expose or gossipy tell-all (not that there's anything wrong with that!) In the here! press release director John Roecker reveals that he was impressed with the guys involved and found them "incredibly bright, sensitive and inspiring". In keeping with these impressions the series will actually feature "very interesting and uplifting stories".
So far here! has revealed the names of only a few of the performers: Johnny Hazzard, Brad Benton, Nick Capra, Jason Hawke, Nick Piston and Jason Ridge. If this is a representative sampling it looks like the series will have a nice variety of performers featured. Frankly, we don't know how much more we can learn about Jason Ridge that he doesn't say on his blog but it will be nice to see his handsome face on camera. As for the rest it will be fascinating to find out how many of our preconceived notions about the rest of these guys will be born out and how many guys with whom we'll be surprised. More to come...

Wow! It could be worth subscribing to Here just for this. I'm surprised (and happy) that they're dedicating so much time to this. Porn has always been treated like a dirty little secret, but it's a secret we all have in one way or another. I'm looking forward to this!
