Mario Lopez vs Nick Adams

Who knew that Mario Lopez was such a diva? In a story that sounds like the plot for a male version of a slightly altered All About Eve, muscular Mario is making the news. We're not exactly talking about a knock-down feud, but Mario has been involved in a competition with one of his co-stars in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line.

It all started when Mario Lopez was cast as Zach in the restaging of the '70s musical classic. In this modern version, Zach (who originally was just an offstage voice) is a visible character as Michael Douglas portrayed him in the movie version. However, Mario wanted to make a costume change. So the powers-that-be allowed him to wear more form-fitting clothes, including short sleeves so he could (allegedly) show off his arms. We certainly can't argue with that.

But things started to go into "diva" territory when Mario started making demands because of hunky co-star Nick Adams.  Adams, who plays a fellow choreographer wore tank tops that showed off his own physique and this didn't sit too well with Lopez who apparently wanted all eyes on his bod--how alpha male! SO, Adams had to cover up more and even when a scene called for him to wear that tank top he was less prominent on stage. Coincidence? Hardly. Round one goes to Mario Lopez.

Round two happened this week when men's underwear company 2(x)ist picked out their latest underwear model for an ad campaign. The company considered Mario Lopez to be their #1 pick and was going to sign him until.....they got a look at Nick Adams. Incidentally it wouldn't be the first time that Adams had revealed so much skin. He's appeared in Broadway Bares (the AIDS charity event). They called Adams in and once they saw him in person they looked at no one else and signed him up. It's been reported that they thought his body and sex appeal were more what they were looking for than what they saw in Mario.  Apparently the ad campaign was shot in one day and will appear in Out's August issue first and then in other magazines.

The irony is that Mario Lopez didn't want Nick Adams to show him up on stage and now he's going to have face being shown up in print which will reach a much bigger audience. Even though we think Mario is still luscious eye candy it would be fitting if a billboard near the theater featured the upcoming ads. But A Chorus Line closes in August so they better get cracking on that.
