Queer TV Round-Up: The Update

Janice Dickinson (then, not now) Thomas Roberts Flipping Out Again!
Just the other day we covered a lot of bases on the gay TV front, but of course we can never be completely up-to-date when news just keeps on happening. So here's our latest mini-update.
Flipping Out. Yes, it's true. The saga of the real estate investor Jeff Lewis goes on. The gay man with OCD returns this summer on Bravo in a second season. Apparently the first season did well in the ratings and it's filming right now so it'll probably air about the same time as the new season of My Life on the D-List with Kathy Griffin (more on her below). You can expect this second season to have even more drama due to the diminishing real estate market. As we've seen before, you can't write this kind of stuff!
Project Runway. The fate of this show even more muddled. It is still moving to Lifetime and there will be one more season that will air on Bravo (starting this summer?). But as you know NBC/Universal was suing to keep the show at its original home--they claimed that they had not been given the chance to bid on the show. Now the plot thickens again. The producers (Magical Elves) have signed a new contract with NBC/Universal to continue to produce shows and create new ones---and they won't be producing PR for Lifetime.
What does all this mean? Well, while the "name" of the show goes to its new home only Heidi & Tim may go along with it. Bravo will still have the broadcast rights to Magical Elves' other shows like Top Chef & Top Design.
Plus, according to the accounts we've read Magical Elves hinted that because they have a big interest and connection to the world of fashion they may create a new Project Runway-type show. It sounds like the more things change the more they remain the same.
GLAAD Media Awards. We got a very nice thank you from one of the GLAAD media relations people for mentioning the awards and we're happy to say that the awards are going to air on Bravo on June 27.
Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. Did you have any doubts that Janice wouldn't be back? We don't have any news on an airdate but casting for season four is going on right now. That's right Janice is looking for new modes and there's a new wrinkle. According to Janice's MySpace page she is looking for people for her newest division--plus-size models. Will this include men? Will we see "big and tall men" or as we call them "bears"? Stay tuned.
Brothers & Sisters. The wedding of Scotty and Kevin is still on for this week May 11 and GLAAD has proclaimed it as the first same-sex wedding of series regulars. You might think that's splitting hairs especially when you see the list GLAAD compiled of other same-sex weddings to have aired on TV. You can see the whole list (with airdates and episode titles at the GLAAD site but we've got the list of other shows and the couples here:
Roc. Roc's uncle Russell and his mate.
Northern Exposure. Bed & breakfast owners Ron & Erick.
Roseanne. Leon & Scott.
Friends. Ross' ex Carol & Susan.
Spin City. Carter's fake wedding.
Whoopi. Mavis' lesbian cousin gets hitched.
Simpsons. Patty & Veronica plan their wedding"Brothers & Sisters.
Queer As Folk. Lindsay & Melanie. Ben & Michael.
Degrassi: The Next Generation. Ashley's dad weds.
Six Feet Under. David & Keith marry in a flash forward.
The L Word. Shane & Carmen ALMOST get married.
It should be noted that many of these shows also featured these and other characters on their shows. We'll always hold Roseanne in high regard for including gay and lesbian characters into her shows.
Remember Thomas Roberts? He made it on one of our Jack Manly Men of The Year lists and disappeared from The Insider tv series soon after (no, we aren't responsible!). The sexy hunk came out and was mysteriously demoted at CNN and he was dropped from The Insider back in February (after pics of him were published at Manhunt. Well, Roberts has resurfaced---he's on the cover of and featured in an article in The Advocate. No, no juicy gossip inside just a look at what it's like being gay in broadcast news.
Finally, we mentioned Kathy Griffin will be back with her new show this summer and hopefully it's receded by another live show special. The last one we saw had some hilarious bits about meeting Liza Minnelli, her Emmy win, and a great video that was made for the never aired Golden Globes AWards. Since My Life On The D List
is a reality show we wonder how Apple co-founder Steve Wozniac will be included. He and Kathy were dating at the time but they've broken up since -apparently with little publicity although he is now engaged to someone else.
That should do it (for now) but we'll have further updates as they come in.
