A Tale of Four Cities part 2: Erik Rhodes

In part one of our look at the fascinating blogs of four different stars of male erotica we caught up with Spencer Quest in Provincetown. Here in part two we head to New York and take another look at Slipping Away, the blog of Falcon superstar Erik Rhodes. It's been awhile since we visited here and as expected there's still lots of drama. If you've never seen Slipping Away, be prepared. It's pretty brutally honest and it makes Spencer Quest's blog seem tame. Even Erik Rhodes offers his own warning by referring to himself in his profile as a "miserable porn star with nothing better to do with his spare time".
Now, we're not here to do any armchair psychology but there is an obvious amount of self-loathing you'll notice at Slipping Away. It happens in the adult industry. We knew one guy who was a popular star in the 90s and quit the biz. He wound up in a job that brought him in contact with the public and many times he had to deal with guys who recognized him from his former life. It got so bad that blew up in public and harshly referred to his porn name in the third person and declared him dead. Eventually he moved away and we've lost track of him as he is now living in relative obscurity.

Because of the openness with which he writes and expresses his thoughts, Erik Rhodes gets a ton of comments on Slipping Away. Some are of them are the "please let me save you" variety, others castigate the guy. And there are always those who want to get inside his pants. And he is not afraid to publish these comments and answer back. Love him or hate him, Erik Rhodes holds nothing back. His life, his loves, his thoughts and deeds are all laid out in great detail. You'll form your own opinions but we're willing to bet that they'll change as often as the moods you'll see presented at his blog.
Seemingly the topic Erik Rhodes has devoted most of his time to is his love life, primarily his volatile relationship with ex (and MTV reality star) Danny. Erik seems to have finally moved on and his latest blog entries have been noticeably less angry, almost hopeful.. There 's someone new in his life and Erik Rhodes IS trying to overcome his problems with substance abuse. This doesn't mean we'll soon be seeing rainbows and teddy bears on the blog for the sake of it--that's not the style of Slipping Away.
On the other hand Erik Rhodes isn't all darkness rising either. We saw a bit of that fun side on TV when he hopped up on stage at last year's GayVN Awards and let mistress of ceremonies Kathy Griffin feel up his shirtless body. And you'll find this side sprinkled throughout the blog--you just have to keep an eye out for it.

When all is said and done one thing is clear--Erik Rhodes is a big deal at Falcon and in the industry. He has his own mini-website at Falcon and his fame has led to a several legit modeling jobs. He's appeared in a Loehman's
print ad and was photographed by Joe Oppedisano for a well-publicized Manhunt shoot. By the way, Joe Oppedisano's film Knockout! is available on DVD in May. It's a must-see film for anyone who loves his gritty, masculine and sexy technique seen in calendars and books like Testosterone. In fact, Knockout! is really the live action version of Testosterone---a sexually tantalizing look at the raw masculinity of fighters and athletes.
As we've done with many of the men we spotlight here and at Jack Manly we've got the filmography of Erik Rhodes. All of the following flicks are available at the Falcon site on DVD and video on demand (VOD) with one exception, Flesh, which was done for Studio 2000.
