Make Me a Super Homophobe

Another week, another female contestant eliminated and we're down to 5 guys and 2 girls on Make Me A Super Model. Or... if you go by model Ben's way of thinking it's down to 3 guys and 4 girls. This week the bloom definitely came off the rose for us with regards to former prison guard Ben. His homophobic tendencies came out on this week's episode and although Ronnie forgave him we could tell that Ronnie may be re-thinking his loyalties too. Good!
Actually it's all in the editing. That's the upshot of this week's Make Me A Super Model. It would have been pretty  easy for the producers to edit out the scenes of contestant Ben making an ass of himself, but.....they didn't. And we didn't liked what we saw.

The episode started off with a somewhat surprising elimination----Jackie. She obviously had fewer fans than Frankie
and the girl that the judges were very high on in the early going was voted off. No amount of editing could have saved the poor dear who simply did not perform well last week. Strangely, Jackie comes off better in her post-elimination "confessional" on the Bravo website. Ah well, if she had let her guard down more she might have survived. With only two girls left the odds were that at least one of the guys would fail to impress this week.

This had to be one of the oddest episodes yet in terms of the way it transpired. The models were taken to a ski resort for a competition and a little vacation time---or so they thought. They were also informed that after the first competition, the lowest scoring  model would have to leave the resort and return to NY. Right away Shannon had problems with some stomach or intestinal disorder that sent her to the resort hospital. She did come back in time for the photo-shoot which involved action and snow sports. There was lots of falling because of the icy conditions of the snow pack and the fact that no one was that skilled with the equipment. Nevertheless Holly and Ronnie excelled. Frankie was sent back.

The next morning the group's personal trainer showed up VERY early to put them through their paces with a wood-hauling and snow-building competition. Two teams were chosen at random with Ben, Holly & Shannon on one team, and Ronnie, Perry & Casey on the other. The losing team would have to clean the model's townhouse
when they got back. This is where things got ugly. Ben turned into a raging homophobe, mocking Casey and Ronnie
and calling them girls. He didn't stop there and went ahead to knock down the other team's phallic show sculpture. Ronnie wasn't just hurt--he was embarrassed for Ben.

Back at the residence Ronnie (with a silent Casey in tow) took Ben aside and gave him a good talking to about his behavior. Ben didn't quite get it, but Ronnie wound up giving his bud the benefit of the doubt--at least in front of him. But we got the impression that things have permanently changed--Ronnie saw a side of Ben that he didn't like and you can be sure he's now looking at his crush with new eyes.

The catwalk competition involved wearing Ben Sherman attire (kinda sleek and retro) and stepping up on a revolving platform, modeling, and stepping off. They all practiced but when it came time for their walks, only Ronnie and Holly did really well. Holly was flawless this week and won the week. But the judges also praised our boy Ronnie. He's gotten his mojo back and we have a feeling that his getting over Ben can only help his discipline.
Once again Perry was criticized for his bad walk and Shannon's health issues handicapped her performance. But both were spared from the vote. Frankie faced the same criticism of lacking supermodel qualities, Casey was chastised not living up to the potential they see, while Ben's stiffness was his main critical issue. The judges DID get to the heart of Ben's problem----he doesn't see himself as sexy. After his behavior we agree.

So, have the producers helped viewers get over their crush on Ben? Or will Frankie be sent packing? Or will wee all get surprised to see Casey depart? We shall see. And will Ronnie continue to do well? Let's keep out fingers crossed.
