Make Me A Super Bore

Ronnie goes from joy to tears

Fashion week! An exciting time in New York City. So you'd imagine there would be an exciting episode of Bravo's Make Me A Super Model set against the background of this pivotal period. Wrong! This episode couldn't have been less exciting if it tried. It was unintentional, but this episode was very comparable to the fortunes of Jack Manly favorite Ronnie. For several weeks we've seen the show improve and become more exciting. Ronnie has gotten better, ranking well with each successive challenge. Then POW! The magic for Ronnie and MMASM seemed to vanish.

As always the show began with the elimination. Unsurprisingly Jay was voted off and he didn't seem too upset by the ousting. If Katy had gone it might have been more emotional. As it was Katy spent the episode on a slow downward spiral.  The focus on her may have been a reason the episode fell so flat. When she wasn't onscreen, the rest of the models were talking about her.

Will Ronnie's birtthday wish come true?

The highlight of the episode was the very sweet gay/straight alliance between Ronnie and Ben. As they lolled around, Ronnie verbally put out his fondest wish that he and his object of desire would be the final two. Then there was their co-birthday party. All the models took them to dinner as thought they really were a couple. Are the producers really trying to make us root for these two to consummate their love? It sure seems so!  Ronnie did his Henry Higgins thing--finally showing his Eliza Doolittle Ben how to walk the runway. Unfortunately, it was like a mysterious talent transfer. Ben did well for the rest of the episode, Ronnie faltered. Even whenthe rles were reversed and Ben tried to help Ronnie walk it only half-succeeded.

Since the focus of this episode was Fashion Week, the models participated in several fashion shows--graded by the designers and the regular judges. For Ronnie, Frankie and Jackie they just took two steps back while models like Holly, Ben, and Casey stepped up. Katy merely continued on her un-super path. During an exercise session the trainer pulled a pack of cigarettes out of her pocket. She claimed she was eating better yet there she was later eating a big old hunk of leftover cake. This came up gain later at the judges' table

A confusingly edited parlor game the models played seemed to bring out some hidden feelings---and the underlying competitive nature of the show that's going to get worse.  Perry seemed to bear the brunt of the criticism even though he was top contender for dishing it out. Earlier the guys had professed male unity and that the girls were disconnected. As it turned out, Perry proved that there is discord among the guys too. It seems that
his cocky 'tude is making it's way onto the runway too.

If Ronniegoes who will comfort Ben?

The final catwalk involved the grunge look (how retro!) and Ben went from zero to hero after a series of good performances. His "mentor" Ronnie seemed to lose his confidence on the runway and flubbed hiswalks. One harsh (and unfair criticism) came from a designer who though his All-American look didn't fir his edgy designs.  Huh?
How was our boy suposed to change that? Well, as it turned out Ronnie, Frankie (who lost his edge too), and the hapless Katy wound up being up for the vote. It will be truly sad if Ronnie goes. Katy deserves the boot.

One last note. Snotty Tyson seemed to be making a comeback this episode. THAT was also a factor in this episode's lack of appeal. Is there a way to eliminate him?
