Broadway Backwards --The Sequel
As we mentioned on a previous blog last night on Feb 4 theater performers participated in the third annual Broadway Backwards, a charity event benefiting the New York City LGBT Center. This gender-bending show features male actors singing musical numbers written for women, while the female performers sing those tunes written for men. We already mentioned who some of the performers would be at the sold-out show and we're happy to report some of the highlights.
Charles Busch (one of our favorite theater and film drag performers who was OUT of drag here) sang "The Music That Makes Me Dance" from Funny Girl.
Real couple David Burtka and Neil Patrick-Harris sang "Take Me or Leave Me" from Rent (it's the lesbian number)
Hunks Aaron Lazar and Tony Yazbeck sang "A Boy Like That" from West Side Story
Malcolm Gets sang "Dancing on the Ceiling" from Evergreen
Jose Llana, Brooks Ashmanskas, and Gavin Creel sang a pregnancy-themed "I Want it All" from Baby.
All the men (wearing only towels-YUM) sang "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair" from South Pacific
Tituss Burgess (who portrays Sebastian in Little Mermaid sang "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret.
Hunky Cheyenne Jackson and Anthony Rapp ended the whole show with apparently a moving rendition of "suddenly Seymour from Little Shop Of Horrors.
