Broadway Backwards

Cheynne, Gavin, David & Neil Sing for Charity

Jack Manly doesn't have to remind anyone that this is going to be a BIG week. No, we're not just talking Super Bowl (we're just a little curious at to how gay people watch this thing anyway) or Super Duper Tuesday, our first huge primary day. Will we get real front runners?  Endorsements?

We're talking returning TV shows like New Adventures of Old Christine, Survivor, and Project Runway (yes it was MIA last week) and the very real possibility that the writers' strike will get resolved any day now. It's true--this opens the door for the gay version of Super Bowl parties--OSCAR PARTIES!!

We'll be discussing all this and more in our blog this week, but we wanted to make mention of a Monday February 4th charity event that probably won't get that much attention outside of New York City and the theatre community----Broadway Backwards III. It's an annual benefit for New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Community Center and it features male singers performing songs traditionally sung by women and women singing tunes written for men.

Gavin Creel with Cheyenne Jackson                     Anthony Rapp (Rent)                          Aaron Lazar

Taking place at the American Airlines Theatre in NYC,  this event has attracted a nice share of many Broadway and entertainment folk. This year performers include Charles Busch, Liz Callaway, Aaron LazarGavin Creel, Sandy Duncan, Malcolm Gets, and some notable duets such as hunky Cheyenne Jackson with Anthony Rapp and Neil Patrick Harris with David Burtka (real life boyfriends) There will also be a 30-member ensemble and a surprise guest. As you can see the hunk factor is one reason for mentioning this event. It's amazing that so many good-looking and talented men are neglected by hunk-worshipping blogs.

More reasons we feel bad for not including Cheyenne on our Top Ten Ten lists

Obviously we and many others who read this will not be able to attend this one-night only event and it won't be televised or recorded for CD (although we think it would sell big time). But we would be neglectful not to mention such a worthwhile cause--in a long line of worthwhile causes (such as Broadway Cares) that the New York theatre community has done for OUR community. Our impact on the history of theatre has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. That's everything.

Cheyenne Jackson is a dream man. You need to retroactively find him a spot on your year-end list. I had the good fortune of interviewing him after he did United 93. He is as warm and articulate as he is beautiful. And he's out. He's just amazing and I look forward to seeing what he does next!
