Holiday Gift Ideas
Yes, it's that time of year again when we scour the malls, click away on the computer mouse, and whip out our credit cards in the hopes of picking out the perfect gifts for our loved ones. We're not here to whip you into a shopping frenzy or get you all panicky about the season. Rather we're here to make it a little easier with some of our gift suggestions.
We've been doing some of the research for you to find the books you might like AND at the prices you'd like and you can see them up at our online store at JackManly Thanks to Amazon, we've put together a pretty broad range of interesting gift ideas that might also finf their way onto YOUR wish list.
We don't have the time to review every item, but we do want to point out some highlights. First some books to check out--
All My Boys--Canadian fashion and advertising photographer Lindsay Lozon has put together a beautiful collection of pictures of beautiful young men. Featuring his signature style of showing the male figure in a sparse setting, the books also includes a first for Lozon--color pictures. Male pin-up art at its finest.
Dirty Little Drawings--From the Queer Men's Erotic Workshop (gotta love THAT name) is this anthology of art that sprung from a collective of gay NY artists who wanted to strike out on their own. Featuring almost 100 artists, this collection of over 300 pages of gay, erotic and subversive underground art is a sight to behold. So much talent in one very affordable book.
Un/Cut--Photographer Giovanni (this is an alias for apparently a well-known photographer) has produced a seuel to his first two books Bite and Private Parts with another book of photographs of his favorite subject--dicks. Features over 100 pics of beautifully photographed male organs. What we refer to as anatomical art.
Business Affairs--Men at Play has become one of our favorite websites with its focus on the fetish of business suit sex. They've put together a beautifully photographed book that gives you a glimpse into this world of handsome and muscled men in suits. It's very hard not to be seduced by the men in this book. Very hot.
Michael Tolliver Lives by Armistead Maupin--If you've never had the pleasure of reading any of the Tales of the City novels, you may want to buy and read them first to catch up (there are six in the series). Maupin returns to the characters that we all grew attached to and which we haven't seen since 1989. The time is years later and the characters come to life again in a witty, poignant, and ultimately satisfying update that will remind you how wonderfully Maupin writes.
One Size Fits All by Ben Patrick Johnson--Johnson is the openly gay voice-over artist who turned to writing and YouTube video blogging (with a political & activist edge). But he's also a gifted novelist whose books draw on his Hollywood insider experiences with humor and fun characters.
Mondo Homo: Your Esential Guide to Queer Pop-Culture--Edited by Richard Andreoli. Andreoli and eight other gay writers (all of whom have contributed the vast array of gay publications). This funny and irreverent book takes a look at gay pop-culture with a collection of essays, advice, and more. It covers all the bases and still wil have you begging for more--or at least a sequel.
Stripped--There are so many talented and exciting gay illustrators and comic artists of whom you probably aren't even aware. This book is a wonderful collection of and an essential primer to the many artists whose work you'll not see much of in mainstream press---but should.
Again , these are just a few highlights so we urge you to check out the online store at JackManly and look at the selection. And by all means, if we've missed a few we want to hear from you.
Coming soon--our look at the DVDs & music that will make you a superstar of gift-giving.

Michael Tolliver Lives is such an awesome novel. I almost never read fiction, but I couldn't put this book down. No one is better than Maupin at writing about the little thinks that make life great. Reading this book is a real treat!
