Lavender Shadows
Hmmm..if you and your friends were discussing actresses, what would you think if one of the people in the discussion brought up their list of 5 women that they would "do"? You'd probably think, of all the gorgeous men out there, why bother making a list of women with whom you'd have sex?
Well, now think of the same scenario except picture a group of straight guys discussing male actors in front of milions of online viewers and one guy chimes in with his list of guys he'd blow. What would you conclude about that guy? Comfortable with his sexuality? Maybe. And what if this same guy earlier made a half-joking confession in front of an openly gay man and that huge audience that he blew someone in college? Comfortable with his sexuality? Bi-curious? What if
this exact same guy, in front of a TV audience, got upset with a very sexy girl telling other people that he tried to kiss her when he didn't? A stand-up guy who doesn't like liars?
Well none of these scenarios are theoretical. They've been happening on Big Brother 8 on CBS and online. Think we're kidding? Check out You Tube and you'll see this straight guy Nick in all of these scenes. Closet case? Maybe. Or was this guy simply pretending to be straightto get on TV. After all, the percentage of gay men on Big Brother has been pathetic at best. Only this year do we have two, and they are ex-boyfriends. Check out Big Brother and see if YOU can figure out this guy's story.
It looks like there's another instance of gay adult actors crossing over into mainstream media in a new here! series (not that you would exactly categorize a gay cable networkas mainstream media
. You've probably already heard about that gay vampire series The Lair that features gay porn star Colton Ford as a sheriff. It's not a great series by any means but it is an odd mex of soft corn porn and horror. If you look closely you will also spot Michael Von Steel in a few scenes. Amateur porn fans will recognize him from appearances on Jake Cruise, Randy Blue, etc and a recent Playgirl appearance. And boy doeshe stand out! By the way, here's an unsolicited note to made-for-cable gay producers--lighten up! Don't take it all so seriously. The premises of Dante's Cove and The Lair are perfect for some witty gay humor they are sorely lacking. Where's the irony?? It would be advisable for the guys at the network to check out old episodes of the classic soap Dark Shadows to see how a low budget show can be good and at times unintentionally funny. It would be fun to nickname either of these two gay horror shows as Lavender Shadows. Unfortunately neither cuts it.
